Hi all,

I am looking to purchase a VP150 in next month or so (to go with the QS8's I just ordered!!) and the colour will depend on the type of bracket I can get - let me explain...

I have a 50inch plasma that is wall mounted on a pretty standard flat wall mount bracket. I am trying to find something that I can attach to this and hold the new centre speaker so that it runs nicely along the bottom of the TV (It will protrude abit but that is no issue). If I can do this I will order a black speaker as I think it will look great adjacent to the black TV.

If I am unable to get such a beast then I will need to order a Light Maple one that will sit on top of an low white coloured entertainment unit that is positioned below the TV.

I am unable to attach a bracket directly to the wall as the wall in question is plaster board (I think referred to as Drywall in North America) and will not support the weight over time. The nearest stud is too far away for any traditional type of bracket.

Anyone know of anything??

Cheers

Mount a board horizontally between the two studs to allow a traditional wall mount?

Can you use either a W150 on/in wall or a VP150 In-Cabinet Speaker? These don't rely on any wood support or bracing.

Gringo, there are products that will allow you to mount into drywall:

http://www.itwbuildex.com/ezprod.htm

I wouldn't necessarily use them to mount 50lbs, but the VP150 is less than 25lbs so you should be OK. I've mounted items using them, but I don't think they were more than 25lbs.

To be REALLY safe, though, you might want to use something stronger like the ones listed in the bottom half of this page:

I have a hundred year old 45# mirror hanging off one of these "screw inset anchors". Been there for 5 years, no problems. I use them every where for everything. I wouldn't have any second thoughts about hanging a 150 with 2 or 3. I also have my QS4s installed with them, and this weekend will hang my QS8s with them.

The thing about your mirror is all the weight is pulling perpendicular to the wall anchor. That's where it's strongest. When using a wall anchor on a speaker mount, much of the force (at least on the top-most screw) will be acting to try to pull the anchor straight out from the wall. The Axiom FMB mounts attach to the wall at two points.

Just two points vertically aligned? I still wouldn't be worried about them. I would think something that horz, would have something to both sides on top then a bottom mount just for "bounce"

Good point, especially if using the FMB. What I envisioned were anchor points near the ends of the speaker (ie. distributed more horizontally rather than being centered vertically).

Perhaps he can attach a shelf (with L brackets) to the wall using these anchors, and then sit the speaker on the shelf. It may not be the prettiest solution though...
