It was early 1960's. I went to a movie theater with my mother and sister. We watched some sort of science fiction movie that was a real stinker, but there's no trace of it anywhere to be found on the internet. I'm posting it here to see if anyone else remembers it.

A small group of people (a family I think) makes a trip to another planet. They meet an advanced civilization living underground. This civilization is building robots. They explore the robot factory. The movie goes into a loop by warping back to when they meet the underground civilization and replays again leaving out much detail to make this loop shorter. When they hit the same spot it does it again, only it goes a little faster. It continues in this fashion until it ends up just being a fast blur on the screen, where the movie finally ends.

Everyone leaves the theater feeling cheated out of their money and their time.

Ouch. I hope there was more to it than that. Maybe there was something wrong with their projector.

Reminds me of The Fifteen Minute Hamlet, but that was actually good.

Definitely not a projector problem. The movie was made this way. It was so bad, that it looks like all trace of this movie was destroyed.

Maybe The Time Travelers (3 star)...

...or the 1/2 star remake Journey To the Center of Time...

The second movie apparently includes a side trip to prehistoric times while the first one does not.

And no, I had never heard of either film until just now.

The Time Travelers sounds exactly like the movie I have been looking for. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Now, if I can just find a copy of it....

"But in the last quarter, Melchior brings The Time Travelers to a remarkable ending where the time travelers return through the portal only to find the world moving 100 times slower than they are and watch themselves starting the whole process off again, then traveling through the portal a second time and becoming caught up in an endless loop. It’s a wonderfully imaginative touch. There’s something about this that is pure science-fiction, it’s a tiny gem of what the genre is all about when it is at its best, and something quite delightful to find in a B-movie like this.."

It looks like it's only available as a collectors item on VHS for around $40.

It's certainly less gory than the "running with scissors" avatar you see from time to time...
