Hi and thanks in advance for your replies. I am now the proud owner of a pair of m22s, VP150, and a pair of QS8s. I also have a VTF-2 sub. I am currently running them off a Yamaha R-VX2092 thats 6 years old with no problems. I will post my experiences with the Axioms once I have a little more experience with them.

I have decided to purchase a new Yamaha and am torn between the 1400 and 2400. I listened to them both and it seemed to me that the 2400 had a little better soundstage (the salesman played Mighty Sam MccClain while switching the receivers). Maybe it was my imagination but has anyone else who demoed both receivers heard the same thing? After doing some research, the only physical differences I have found are a little more powerful amp and couple extra DSP modes on the 2400. Are any of the "innards" on the 2400 different from the 1400?

One other question, there are several etailers (specifically one company that starts with an E and sort of rhymes with onics) that are selling the 1400 (around $589) and 2400 (around $695). Those of you who have bought a Yamaha from one of these Brooklyn Etailers, is it a grey market receiver and how was the experience?

Once again, thanks for reading my post

Anthony, be aware that a lot of things can seem to make a difference while listening at a dealer, in particular even the slightest difference in volume between listening segments. Since receivers are purely electronic they can't have an effect on the soundstage at equal volume levels; recordings, speakers and listening rooms affect that.

The 1400 and 2400 are both quite powerful THX certified receivers and either should be adequate for your use. One "innard" detail that's different on the 2400 is that it has 15,000 microfarad capacitors while the 1400's are 10,000 microfarads. These store the power supplied by the transformer and the bigger capacitors on the 2400 would give it at least a theoretical edge in being able to supply power at extreme levels for a slightly longer time. It might well be that the 1400 might never be called upon in real-world operation to supply more power than its caps could deliver, however.

As far as sources, you might check out the favorable experience Jeff(jfoxtrot9)reports on his purchase of the 1400 from Etronics.

I bought a 1400 from Etronics a few weeks ago. This is my second purchase from them. (First was a mp3 player for my vehicle a little over a year ago) I have no complaints about either purchase. Good pricing, and fast delivery. Received both in 2-3 days from ordering. The only thing I would be cautious about would be that they are not an authorized Yamaha dealer, meaning the manufacture warranty is void. Etronics offer their own 1 year warranty though. From what I have read in their reviews, they do stand behind what they sell though. To buy from a authorized dealer, from my research anyway, your going to pay the $800. retail price. I thought it was worth the chance to save over $200. and buy elsewhere.

Would anyone know how a vendor would handle a warranty if a piece of equipment was given to someone as a gift? Wouldn't they then have to honor the warranty? Just wondering.

I imagine that you'd have to check local laws. Good question...

they may ask for a copy of the receipt to authenticate(sp) the purchase from an authorized retailer.

You're right they probably would ask for a copy. However, I wonder how they would handle the response that the person who gave the gift didn't provide a receipt? Has anyone encountered such a situation?

Anthony,

I purchased the 2400 from Etronics at Christmas. I love the receiver and Etronics was excellent. This was my first purchase from them. I received an email that the order was received, another that the order had moved to shipping and another that the unit left the factory with tracking id with a direct link to Fed X so I could see where it was at.

I was very satisfied with my first purchase with them.

The receiver is awesome and easy to use !!

Ordered quite a few items from Etronics... good service, fast delivery. I ordered a sony amp a few years back, and they called a week later to tell me they were out of stock... aplologized and then offered to ship me an upgraded Sony amp instead for no extra $$. It turned out to be about a $150 more receiver... still have it works great!

We have a celebrity among us now! Welcome Bilbo!

I already pm'd him the 'Ballad of Bilbo Baggins' link, so don't flood him with messages.
