Just watched the Blu-ray of “Battle for Terra.” I’d say this was a pretty average movie on a whole though some parts were better than others.

First the bad, the story. You’ve seen it before. Also, it tries to do to much to fast while still having some filler so it’s very superficial. It’s moral message is like getting hit over the head with a baseball bat, or several of them as there’s more than one message. If it were up to the story alone I’d have to give it a “D.”

The video was ok. Nothing on par with the better CGI out there but the look was clean and the world though simple was appealing. I was disappointed that it was in a 2.35:1 aspect ratio and not 1.78:1 like many other CGI movies being made. I just think 1.78:1 looks more natural for representing the field of view. Have to give it a “C” here.

The best part was the 5.1 PCM lossless audio. Not a lot of ambient stuff but there is a huge amount of directional audio mostly in the form of panning as ships fly all around you. The dynamic range is also quite good with some nice airy highs along with some deep rumbling bass below 40Hz. So the audio gets a B.

Overall it’s not terrible (rave review huh) but I wouldn’t go out of my way to watch it. Overall I’d rate it a “C” but only if you have a good audio system which by now I hope most of you do. ;\)

Oops. I had a long post about what I'd watched today, but then I forgot to Send it. Let's see...

I just watched Saturday Night Live since I hadn't seen it in a while. I realized that Casey Wilson is no longer on the show, which I find to be a shame. I had a crush on her. Damn that Lorne Michaels. I hope she doesn't fade into obscurity.

Earlier, I watched sample scenes from X-Men: The Last Stand, Ninja Assassin, 9, Super Speedway, The Incredible Hulk, and Band of Brothers to test the bass from the new EP800s. Fun stuff.

Before that, I watched Sherlock Holmes. I've never noticed Hans Zimmer's soundtracks as being anything special before, but I do like his music in this one. I wouldn't call the movie itself a home run, but I do like the focus on the characters of Holmes and Watson and their interactions. I hope that the next one can step up the excitement a bit, which more Moriarty should help with.

I watched last weeks episode of “Caprica” last night. I had waited thinking I would watched two episodes back-to-back without realizing that it’s on hiatus. Talk about a cheesy way to end the first half of the first season with every story arc ending in a “cliff-hanger.” Be still my beating heart.

Yep I’m getting about as exited to watch “Caprica” as I was to read that Emo is now selling subs. Where “Galactica” at least had some trappings of a space opera, “Caprica” has all the trappings of a prime time soap opera.

Also I quickly developed a liking for most of the Galactica characters, but I can really give a hoot about most of the Caprica ones. Only one’s I’ve found interesting so far are Sam Adama and Zoe Graystone, Tamara Adama could also be cool but she actually would need to appear occasionally. Only problem is with Sam they’ve always got “Boxy” I mean William Adama hanging around. Doubt they will kill off Amanda Graystone not that they don’t have the opportunity so continuing to FF when she is on the screen to avoid the feeling I should be pulling my brain out my ear with a coat hanger.

I know that they didn’t want to try to redo “Galactica” but it seems they’ve taken everything that they got wrong with “Galactica” and dumped it all into this series. I sure hope the second half of the season isn’t already shot or that they can at least do something to tweak the show and make it more interesting like dump or at least scale back the “real world” soap opera part of the story and ramp up the cyberpunk angle. That would also take care of the too many story arcs issue.

I’ve seen a lot of glowing reviews out there for this show and a few people who share something like my opinion. I’m interested to hear if anyone else is still watching it and what you think about “Caprica.”

P.S. I really have liked several characters done by James Masters but here they’ve managed to make him into a Dullard.

I watched most of Sherlock Holmes again since my mother didn't get to watch it all. There's some respectable rumble in different parts of the movie.

I watched a new movie called "Remember Me" at the theaters. Good movie. It had characters from Harry Potter, Lost, October Sky, James Bond.

Holy crap! I just realized that the actor who plays Daniel Graystone (Eric Stoltz) was also the drug dealer from Pulp Fiction. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VO48Vr4KIc8
