or more accurately, how much does size matter? i just bought the M3ti and the VP100, with the intention of adding a sub and surrounds when i get more dinero. Picked 'em 'cause of: a) the axiom "wizard" recommended the combo and b) i don't want to see my sound system. i know, i know, but i really like the way the room looks. ok, my wife didn't want "big" speakers.

Anyway, after checking out the the message boards here, besides getting really confused, i've learned an awful lot about the importance of room size, etc. and seems nobody has mentioned anything about the M3ti, good or bad. My room is 12ft x 21ft with a vaulted ceiling that starts at 8ft and extends to 14ft (sitting against the 21ft wall the ceiling is 8ft - 14ft left to right with ent. center directly opposite couch.) i'm 10ft away from the ent. center. couch is centered against the 21ft wall and ent. center is centered opposite. There are two openings on either side of the ent. center. both 4ft x 7ft.
from what i've read in your posts, doesn't seem the M3ti's will be adequate for ht or music? Opinions? should i get ready to return the M3's? what's the alternative for "small" speakers.

Thanks everybody.

oh yeah, a great blues compilation cd is the Time Life Classics "Legends" series. got a good jazz series, too.

I think the general feeling around here is that the M3s are good speakers to have if you don't have a sub, given the choice between M2s and M3s. The M3s have a slight hump in the bass (someone else, I'm sure, will provide the graphs), while the M2s are pretty flat, similar to the M22s and the M60s. Given that you don't have a sub at the moment, I'd say you're doing fine. As to room size, I'm not certain, but given your restriction on visibility, you're stuck with bookshelves (not that that's necessarily a bad thing...)

In short, give 'em a shot, see what you think, and send 'em back if you don't like it. In the long run, it's what you think that matters.

However, I'm getting the M22s. They're remarkably small in person.

Confused yet?

TypeE...I just checked your profile to see what those "too small" speakers are, but you've not filled it out! Get with it boy!

Bub, I think that is a lot of cubic feet of air to have to move around with speakers of that size - IF volume is a concern. Your listening habits are meaningful here. As others have said, let your ears be the judge. If I had to have small, stand-alone speakers in a room, I would not hesitate to get the M3's. And you'll probably be amazed at how much a sub will add to your listening enjoyment. And the M22's are only $125 more. And it's not MY money

if you want to crank out the tunes in that room my recomendation is m60 and a sub.
M60s will also add depth to the soundstage by the way
But, at normal listening levels smaller speakers will work. Only when i am the only one in my house(sister, 2 parents) can i crank up the music. When my sister or mom is home, the music has to be at 'radio' levels.

Very annoying.

If you and your wife want to be able to play loud, thumping music, you will need to get bigger speakers.

I disagree, Hawkson. My M22s + sub are more than capable of playing loud thumping music. Sure, the M60s can do it with less stress, but for an average room, the M22s can handle it quite well.

I agree Peter. My 22s+sub have no problem filling up my "average" size room with excellent sound. I've never felt like I'm missing anything with out towers. In fact, I prefer the M22s+sub over my KEF Q-75 towers for straight two channel music.

Precisely. Which is why I said "I disagree" and not "You're out of your frickin' mind!"

It's just an old adage I heard as a kid growing up in south Louisiana. It goes: "opinions are like a$$ holes...everybody has one and they all stink."

Thats' what they say.

I've updated my page, my speakers that my wife is referring to small are the Energy encores. I want to sell the whole 5pcs and get back around $400, then spare out $300+ to get M60. That would get me from 7.1 to 4.1. I don't know if that is a good decision to go but I really don't have the cash and would like the M60
