I need to pick up some summer wheels / tires for my truck. I usually just buy winter rims and tires and run the stock wheels in the 'non ice' months but I don’t like the wheels that came with the truck and use them for my winter tires… So it’s been a few years since I’ve had to buy rims or summer tires. Back in the day when had race cars in my driveway all the time, my default was Centerline wheels and stickiest Mikey Thompson tire I could find for the track that was still street legal. I’ve never had anything but Centerline wheels for my truck either (when I’ve bought them anyway). I have been doing some research on rims / tires and oh boy…. I’m lost. I had no idea there were so many companies making wheels. Good grief. And tires….. Same thing. Dozens..

So I ran into a kid that works at a high end customizing shop. He’s a good kid who does fantastic work. He’s trying to make some extra cash and has worked out a deal with his boss to use his bosses business to buy a bunch of rims and tires through him. I like the kid and want help him out.

Well, the wheels he has that look good to me are a brand I’ve never heard of. They are Cattivo. The model of rim is the 724 and 22” X 9.5”. They are coming with Sunny tires. Not sure what the tire model is other than they are light truck tires, 305 / 45 / 22. They’ll fit, but are they junk?? Are these wheels junk?? Only thing I can find are that they are made in China.

It disturbs me that your proposed truck's tire aspect ratio is lower than my sportswagon's. ;\)

Also, never heard of either manufacturer. Sunny certainly doesn't sponsor any racing I watch; those tend to be the mfrs I go to, for whatever reason. Probably because I'm intensely susceptible to advertising.

Last tires I bought for my Silverado were Toyo Open Country, excellent tire...I've put around 50,000 kmtrs on them so far, tread shows very little wear, and the tires improved my fuel mileage slightly. The tread is more of a highway tread, they are quiet and return better mileage than my previous Firestones(were also good, put 125km on them). They actually have good directional stability due to the two deep channels in the tread, but they do lack on the traction side as they are not particularily aggressive.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with either of the companies you mentioned, Michael, but make sure you do your homework if they're "offshore".

I've never heard of neither, but it doesn't surprise me.

China seems to be making a lot of tractor trailer truck tires these days, during the summers we deal with semi-trailer load after semi-trailer load of dry fertilizer and last year I noticed during some of our down or refueling times that all of the fertilizer trailer's tires had all sorts of weird names and they all came from China.

My introduction to Chinese made tractor trailer tires.

I run and am very happy with the Nitto Terra Grapplers on my pickup truck, and I run the stock rims.

Mike, I don't know anything about truck tires, but checking TireRack for that size, this one seems to be rated most highly in the Surveys and Reviews sections.

Good lord, just when the thread was about to get good with folks sharing personal accounts of which is the baddest, meanest, coolest, best mud boggin', street racing and Dukes of Hazard style ramp jumpin' tires'n wheels ... John comes along with reasoning and common sense.

Where's the sense of fun and adventure in that?

Hu... well I figured as much. This is a package deal. The tires come with the wheels and I can't change the brand. That's why I asked the question. I figured it was worth a shot that someone here would have either used, or heard of these brands.

Well seeing how no one has heard of these, we might as well talk about mud boggin' Rick.

Ken - Sportswagon?? Is that an oxymoron? Sport - wagon...
