I'm trying to balance sound quality with aesthetics in our main living room home theater system. We have an LCD on the wall above the fireplace, and I have a set of M2's, a VP100, QS8's, and an EP125 being pushed by a Sony 5.1 receiver. We are looking to buy a new A/V cabinet as I have an open A/V rack right now. The cabinet we are interested in has an interior dimension of only 12 inches deep. Does anyone make a receiver that would fit? I can't find one.

Keep in mind I'm willing to sacrifice some quality to make the wife happy as we only use this system for TV/movies and light music. We've looked for deeper cabinets and can't find them.

I don't have any advice as to models, but another factor to keep in mind, is air space above and to the sides. Receivers with integrated amps need to breath. At 12" deep you're not going to have any room to the rear. Cabling is going to be another issue. Even if you find a receiver that is 10" deep, the 5 pairs of speaker wire along with the inputs are going to be squished in there.

Does the cabinet you're looking at have a back to it, or open back?

It is a closed back. I mentioned cutting the back out and my wife didn't want any part of that in case some day we use it for something other than housing a receiver. If we need to cut it out, we will keep looking, but it has been very difficult to find an adequate cabinet.

Thanks for the responses!

had same problem helping my father in law pick out a receiver for his formal living room music system.

Denons lower models are shallow but not 12"
Sherwood newcastle use to make one that was 14" I think.

Ended up with the denon and cutting out the back of the shelf just so the speaker jacks could fit though

Check out the Sherwood Newcastle R-903. Dimensions are 2 5/8 x 17 1/8 x 10... wife should like the look of it as well as the price.

Thanks Micah! That is exactly the size I was looking for. Maybe I'll keep looking for a different cabinet but at least I know there is an option out there. I also think that receiver would be an upgrade from my entry level Sony.

I have a new castle - and it's something like 22" deep! that was tough - but my wife found a armware that she loves, so that worked out. Don't forget to add cooling of you are using a closed cabinet.

- he's pushing 6 ohm surrounds - will that snmall reciever be able to handle it?
