I am interested in the M22 in/on wall speakers. They will be used for my front L/R channels. Normally they would be placed next to my LCD TV (left and right of the TV). However, I prewired my living room for 7.1 a few years ago and I put the wires for front L/R on the front of the side walls (I was going to use satellites pointed to the listener). Now that I found the M22 I want them! Can the M22's be mounted on the front of my side walls, in this placement they will not be pointing toward the listener but towards each other 30' apart. I can't place them anywhere on the front wall with the TV. My room is kinda large 30'wide X 18'long X 17' high. TV is mounted on top of fireplace in the middle of the 30'wide wall. The side walls are the 18'walls. I will be using the VP150 for center, QS8's for surrounds, and EP500 sub powered by an Onkyo 807. Thanks for you help!

You'd be much better off buying the regular M22's and using a swiveling bracket to point them down the room.

I agree that you ought to go for the "full" m22, especially considering your unique situation.

That most likely won't work at all, the front left/right speakers should be on the front spaced out at least how far you are sitting back from them to form a triangle. Axiom does make "thin" on wall wire that is even paintable. Maybe you could splice to the existing wire and run around the wall to the front. I would look at options to rerun wiring, or drop the existing wire down or up and reroute it.

Seriously though. I believe he mentioned he already pre-wired the side walls. But I agree with the above. Unless totally impossible, I'd use the front walls. I think front speakers that are pointed sideways to your seating position would definitely diffuse the sound more than you would like. After all, your fronts are your most important speakers, by far.

I would abandon the side wall jacks and find a way to wire to the front walls if at all possible. Carefully removing the baseboard is another place to hide them if wire invisibility is an issue. You often have to touch up the paint afterward but that's not a big deal if you are very careful. I assume there are also obstacles like door openings and such? Some imagination can probably get you around those too. Don't be afraid to run both speaker wires along the same wall. Ignore the guy at the big box store you may have overheard heard tell somebody that speaker wire runs need to be the same length. Electricity travels ant very near the speed of light. I'm very sure an extra 50' won't be noticeable.

As mentioned, rotating brackets or ceiling mounts are good technical options but I'm betting your significant other will hate that look. I know mine would.

Personally I'd rather have nice looking floor standers or M22s on stands than have in-walls if the only place to put in-walls was in the sidewalls, facing each other. If it's a WAF issue, feel free to blame me.

Ok, here is the reason for the side wall placement; the wall with the TV and future center channel is only 8 feet wide. It is centered between the two side walls that are 30 feet apart. To the left is a stair case leading up to a loft and second floor, it's open to my dining room directly next to the 8' wall. To the right it's open to my kitchen. Basically an 8'wall with a fireplace on the bottom and stone facade all the way up to about 17'. I agree with everyone that placing the M22's on the side wall will not be an ideal placement for them.
The other option is to mount them on either side of my 55" LCD and place the center speaker above the TV. I have about 16" available on either side of my 55"" LCD. Will this placement be too close together? They'll be about 8' apart max. My sitting area (couch) is 13' away from the L/C/R and TV. I will be using 2 or 4 QS8's for the surround, too.

I think the only way you will know what sounds best will be to try out the different placements you have suggested you might use. Even if you go with the side wall mounting I would just make some shelves and use regular M22s aimed out at your seating.

Based on what you’re describing I think you’d be an excellent candidate at some point for using wide speakers. You’d have to run wire for the mains to go near the TV but then you could use the existing wire for the wides. That would both keep the sound of on screen action fairly close to the screen and not way out to the sides but the wide speakers would expand out the front soundstage to sound “bigger” and more enveloping.

I figured that he had openings to the left and right of the wall, however, that was not explained earlier in the original description. Well, I suppose if you used regular m22's, with the right bracket, you might be able to angle them toward the listening position, might work ok. If you can't find a bracket that angles that much, maybe you could build a nice platform to attach to the wall and they can sit on that. The whole equalaterel triangle goes out the window, but it just might work. As Grunt says, give it a try and see what happens. You won't want onwall speakers though as they would not be pointed towards you.

I think the seperation of the front wall should be fine. I struggled alot with wanting to follow the dolbey 22 to 30 degree spec, but based on input from this site's guru, Alan loft, I have them much closer together. I think mounting across the front with only ~8ft seperation would work as the listening distance is only ~13' back, not too far off the equilateral. I would try them here first and then move them out to the side if it doesn't sound good to you.
