Hi All,
I know that axiom doesn't make headphones, but i love axiom speakers, and figured i'd reach out to the community for some advice.

I have a pair of sony mdr-v6 headphones that i wear at the office.
They sound amazing and do a good job at blocking out noise.
But the pad sits on my ear not around it, so after a while they hurt.

I'm considering
1) In ear headphones, like the etymotics
2) Closed phones like the sony but bigger so that they sit around my ear.

Can you give suggestions for each of those categories. My budget is ~$100-200

I've just been through this with some IEMs. I settled on the Etymotics 6i. They run about $80. Isolation is incredible; I was in the living room while my wife was watching Bones (probably at ~70-80dB) and I put on the Etys. I could barely hear that the TV was on, and that was without anything playing. So the downside there is that you won't be able to hear anyone--at all.

Skip the $90 Grado iGis.

For closed headphones with big circumaural pads that will be very comfortable you might want to check out the Audio Technica ATH-A700 and ATH-A900 though they probably will not sound as linear as the V6. From reading some reviews on the AKG K271 MK II are supposedly comfortable for closed headphones. I am thinking about purchasing a pair of those myself.

I have the Shure 840's. There's a lower model too. Closed phones, very accurate. The only negative is that they are pretty massive.

For IEMs, there's a bunch in your range. Some online vendors I personally tested and like, Head Direct RE0's and Thinksound Rains. I have the Ultimate Ears 5EB's. They're OK, but not very accurate, quite bassy and not in a pleasant way.

The Shure SRH series are very nice headphones. I have the middle model the 440.If you are looking for substantial improvement in comfort over the V6 its not worth it. The 440 are smaller in size than the 840 and also have smaller pads.

Do you get any "clamping" sensations wearing the MDR V6?
