Wherever they sound best.
Sub bass is not directional so nearfield/farfield is not relevant.

Neither as the room modes dictate where to properly place the sub for smoothest/best sound. OK, in reality the better half usually states the sub can't be placed in the optimum position and it gets relegated to the most aesthetic placement.
