David, quality knives are available for well under that price. A partially serated blade is the way to go for more versatility in cutting stuff. Consider this excellent 3.5" knife.

Not sure if I want a full straight edge or part serrated/part straight.

Primary use will be for anything needed during hiking, camping, or fishing.

Any suggestions?

I don't have a lot of experience with simple folding knives, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

I've always loved Leatherman multi-tools, and a few years ago I bought one that came with a 'free' C33Lx. At the time I didn't really even know Leatherman made knives. It's a nice-sized folding knife that I've found quite useful when I just needed a simple knife. It's light, and has both a belt clip and carabiner attachment. Same high build quality that I'm used to in the multi-tools, just in an easily-totable folding-knife.

Might be something to check out, as I think you can find them at just about any camping/hiking/outdoorsy kind of store, as well as online. They're well within your budget, and guaranteed for 25 years.

Who knew there was so much pocket knife porn out there?

I use a [takes off shoes and socks] 30 year old knife I bought at an outdoor store when I was a young lad. It didn't seem expensive at the time, but this knife really keeps it edge.

David, I'd be far more inclined to get a multi tool of some sort. I find they have more of the types of things you might need for the outdoors than many of the pocket knives, esp a strong pliers for fishing or on the spot repairs.
