Looking for a good folding single blade pocket knife. Must be light weight and durable, $150 or less.

Not sure if I want a full straight edge or part serrated/part straight.

Primary use will be for anything needed during hiking, camping, or fishing.

Any suggestions?

Uh oh. Another gadget thread... ;\)

I'm not a folder fan. But I found this site because of Headfi w/ posters talking about hand made tools. I have a few of his tools, including a very nice blade (Fixer). My best one (for me) is a metric tool that I use on my fixed/singlespeed bike. Not that easy to find small, pocketable metric tools.

I carry a Boker Automatic. I've been pretty happy with it, I've had it for a couple of years now. It's pretty good steel and needs minimal sharpening. It stays razor sharp for a long time with proper sharpening.

My brother-in-law is a big Gerber fan. He got me a folding paraframe knife. You can open it with one hand with a little practice. Pretty sweet.

It has a secure clip to hook it to your pants pocket. Gerber makes some excellent knives. I haven't done the research but you can prolly spend as much as you want.

When I got married I gave all my groomsmen a Buck Folding Hunter. I wish I had gotten one for myself but never did. It's been 30 years now and my brother-in-law is still using the one I gave him -- and he's pretty rough on tools.

What size blade are you looking for? What do you consider "light"?

hmmmm, no clue about the exact weight, just not something that really weighs the pocket down. Not exactly sure about size either, but not a large 5" blade or a tiny 2" blade... maybe around 3- 3.5" or so?

Anyone have any comments on benchmade vs. gerber or any other brand?

So I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with the Benchmade 530 REI Limited edition Knife. It weighs a mere 1.8 ounces, has a 4.15 inch closed length, and a 3.18" blade. Seems pretty light, compact, and durable.

I've always had good luck with Kershaw knives.

I have an Emerson CQC-7 mini with a chisel ground combo blade (tanto shape, half serrated). The thing is awesome. It's a slightly smaller version of a tactical knife made for Marines and Law enforcement. A little bulky for an everyday carrier, but for hiking, camping, fishing, you'll probably never need another. They are on Ebay-worth a look.
