Well sure, need. I mean, if you're going to listen to your music at refreence when you're in the bathroom, with the door closed and your system is in the basement, you really need a kilowatt minimum...

He really did seem to be fairly knowledgable and enthusiastic about properly allowing for headroom. And he used the word 'control' quite a bit... "An amp that runs out of available dynamic headroom looses control of the audio signal", or something along those lines.

I dunno, I guess the fact that he wasn't trying to sell me any of his products seemed to give him more credibility.

Thats like saying you need to put a hemi in your VW Beetle to give you more control because the stock engine just isn't enough. You were being sold.

After much research and going back and forth I have narrowed it down to the following for my HT system:

Axiom: VP100, M22 and QS4

Ascend: CMT 340 L/C/R and HTM 200 surrounds

Tweat City: Pro 10 L/C/R Surrounds TBD

Room: 2500 - 3000^ft
AVR: Denon 790
Sub: LFM1+

Thoughts??

You do know this is the AXIOM forum, what do you think we are going to say? ;\)

I would say order up all 3 sets, do a good comparison and keep the ones you like the best. \:\)

Well, then, here's a chance to ask.

I think I want a NuForce tweaked out Oppo 83SE. Oppo's SE is $900. Another 300+ for the Nuforce-- (mostly clock improvements).

Whaddya think? And, really? Don't ya think SACD and DVD-A are both gonna get 86-ed?

that's a pretty big room! I'd go with bigger Axioms. Period. They rock. (this is an Axiom forum after all!)

Bob, I think that DVD-A has already been "86-ed", SACD(although a commercial failure)will hang around a while longer, especially in the classical realm, and the NuForce "tweak" is utter nonsense.

Ok... I know there was an Audio format for DVD... the aforementioned DVD-A. I haven't been able to find a definitive answer re Blu-ray. Is there a format for Blu-ray Audio Discs?

Provided it exists, what are the odds we'll be buying lossless Audio Discs on Blu-ray 3yrs from now? Given the fact I've seen nothing on it, I would think, "not good".

I did read an article recently where the author was surmisng that BR discs would bring back HD audio even stronger than before and it would be in the same format as BR discs since it already has the capability to handle the higher resolution unlike CD.
