Looks like a call into axiom is in order for the morning. I Noticed my sub was not working tonight.

Checked receiver settings, cable connection, outlets, etc. Opened up the sub and all connections are tight. Light on back is green. When running test tones from receiver there is no sound coming from the subwoofer at all.

Any thoughts? Could it be a bad amp or would the light still be green if that was the case?

thanks.

Here is the EP500 troubleshooting guide. There is a specific troubleshooting section for having a green light on and no audio.

Thanks. I just checked the top and bottom fuses per the manual and neither one appears to be blown. No clue what the problem is as it was just working a few days ago and nothing has been changed.

I'll follow up with axiom in the morning unless anyone else has any bright ideas.

Thanks.

You can try turning off the amp and unplugging the sub. If its hooked up to a power strip you can also try a reset as well. Also, checking the internal wiring like the troubleshooting guide says sounds like a great idea.

With faulty amps, common symptoms are intermittent popping in standby/on or in some cases really loud pops followed by no power to the unit.

Could be the receiver/subwoofer pre-out . If you can't find anything wrong with the receiver than everything else has been pretty much covered except the amp which still can be the culprit.

I heard a few popping noises during a movie I was watching earlier and that's what made me inspect the sub and find out that it wasn't working. I'm suspecting a bad amp as well but will see wha axiom has to say.

Try hooking it directly to a CD player. If it still doesn't make a sound, at least you've ruled out a bad sub out on your receiver.

Sounds like the problem is the amp, those popping sounds you are experiencing is very typical of something being wrong. A new amp will fix er` right up.

I don't own any cdplayers just ps3,360, and cable box. I suppose I could hook up to my iPhone? I don't have he appropriate cable for that so would have to get one.

If you can't test the functionality of the receiver pre-out, just leave the subwoofer unplugged from the electrical outlet until you talk to Axiom in the morning.

David, an alternative way to eliminate the receiver sub out as the problem and test the sub amp is to connect with speaker wire to the high level inputs from the receiver main terminals(i.e., just disconnect your mains).

Thanks for the tip John. I forgot you could do that. I suspect the problem is with the amp but I'll give that a try after work today to be sure.

I've temporarily unplugged the sub and changed my front speakers to large and sub to "no" in the denon frown

So I took a minute this morning and connected the speaker wires from my FR speaker to the sub. I still did not hear anything at first. I turned the volume on the sub to max and heard a little bit of noise. Disconnected speaker cable and reconnected sub cable. enabled sub setting in receiver. Through test tones the sub is now working... not sure if it has the same oomph that it did before but will have to check test tones with spl meter to verify. The popping noise occured twice last night, and the sub was definitely silent. Not sure what the deal is but will still call axiom today to find out what their thoughts are.

Everything seems OK except the amp which to me sounds like the culprit. The amp is acting like it is on its last legs. Keep a careful ear out for anymore popping sounds or any other strange sounds either when the sub is in standby or when the sub is playing. This eventually leads to the loud pop of death.

Talked to Brent and he thinks that the DSP "locked up" and needed to be reset. generally speaking, leaving the sub unplugged for a couple of hours will reset it.

he said to keep an eye on it and if it happens again to call him back.

hopefully I don't have any more issues!

If the problem still persists at least you now know the problem is in the amp.

Well I went into my manual speaker config. today and cycled thru the channel levels and the sub was not working. Shortly after (a minute or so)I cycled through the channel levels and it was working again.

The sub is working right now but there is definitely some type of intermittent problem. I contacted axiom and they want me to send my amp in to them. Since it is a 3 year old V2 amp they can't just send me new so I have to send it in.

Apparently I have to pay for packaging and shipping myself which is a bummer. I knew the 30 day home trial worked that way but I thought the warranty would include shipping both ways. I asked them to send me one of their wooden amp coffins at the very least so that I would not have to hope that it survives the trip with only bubble wrap and cardboard. Brent agreed to send me the box but as far as I know I'm still out 30 bucks or more for the shipping charge unless the box shows up with a prepaid label or something (but I highly doubt that since he said he could not waive the shipping fee for me.)

Sounds like I will be without a sub for a couple of weeks. not sure if they are going to refurbish the amp, send me a different refurbished v2 amp, or just test my amp to see if it is bad and send it back or what. At this instant it is working but who knows how many times it hasn't worked when it was supposed to and I never noticed.

I'm glad to be able to get some assistance at all thanks to the lengthy 5 year warranty that axiom offers so I suppose I can't complain.

I'll let everyone know how the process goes. Wish me luck!

Thanks. I am out of town for a week or more so I assume that the amp coffin will be waiting for me when I return.

I hate to send it off since it seems to be an intermittent problem and as of right now everything is working. If it turns out to be fine I would gladly offer to pay shipping both ways to axiom and back and for the extra shipping cost of sending me the coffin. However, if it is a faulty amp I would like for axiom to cover shipping both ways... wink

The popping noise was definitely not normal and I am not sure what would cause subwoofer silence even during manual channel adjustment. Something is definitely going on but not sure what...

Well the amp coffin never arrived and I called axiom. Brent said there was nothing in the system that indicated something should be sent out. I have tested my subwoofer several times and it is not having any issues so I guess I'm just going to wait and see if it acts up again or not. I told Brent that I would just wait and see how things played out.

Sub stopped working again. Tried to call axiom support a few times since this morning but haven't got an answer so I left a message.

I guess I'll cough up the 40-50 bucks to ship the amp to them as there is definitely a problem.

During test tones there was a pop (sounded like the sub started to work for a second), then complete silence. Turned off everything and tried again and still silence. I put the test tone onto SW and went back and turned the volume up on ep500, nothing at all until volume reached 12 oclock position then it started working suddenly.

mysteriously a ground loop hum started to appear an hour or so later, which was resolved by loosening the chasis ground screw. (I had ground loop issues before but solved them with the axiom ground isolator.) now, there is no ground loop hum with chasis ground screw screwed in or out, that problem only lasted a few minutes.

I would leave that sub unplugged from an electrical outlet until you get a replacement amp sorted out.

As always axiom customer service stepped up to the plate again. New amp will be shipped to me soon and I will be able to ship my old amp back in the same box it came in. This will keep me from having to find a box sturdy enough to support the amp through it's trip up north. I was able to buy a return shipping label from them for only $25, which isn't bad at all.

It good you're getting a new amp but being under warranty Axiom should have foot the bill for return shipping imo. It's not your fault the amp crapped out, it's a defect in workmanship.

I agree with you Rick, but I don't know of anybody that covers return shipping on warranty work. Many make you pay both inbound and outbound shipping.

I recently had a problem with one of the sensors on a weather station and warranty support had to come from the united states. I didn't pay a single cent on the sensors, shipping nor did I incur any import fees.

Its certainly not unheard of.

I felt the same way at first, but after thinking about it I can't complain.  You may or may not remember that I had a rattle in my first ep500 right after I bought it.  They thought the amp boot was leaking air so sent me a new one and I returned my old with no shipping charges.  Did not fix the problem, so they sen me a new ep500 and I sent my old one back, no charges. I posted a video of the sound the ep500 was making and everyone agreed it did not sound normal. This sub does not do the same thing and I have a suspicion that it was excessive port noise due to internal vibrations, possibly a cabinet issue.  I only heard the sound when things were pretty loud and I was playing scenes like darla fish tapping from nemo.  I thought maybe I was just over driving the first sub but the folks at axiom said it shouldn't rattle at all, period.

Within the first Month or two of ownership my qs8 grill broke when I tried to remove it and they sent me a new grill free of charge.  Sometime last year I had a bad rattle on an m80 which I pinned down to the grill that had a worn post that was rattling like crazy during certain frequencies.  They sent me a new m80 grill free of charge and I hasn't rattled since.

Long story short, axiom has given me more than my fair share of free shipping so I don't mind paying it now.

Replacement Amp arrived today. I have not had any popping or humming from the old amp since the last occurrence but it has stopped working briefly once since. As of the time of swapping amps the old one seemed to be working ok though.

Upon removing the amp boot I noticed that the red speaker wire terminal that goes into the black boot was loose (the actual binding post itself was very wiggly.) This was the only thing I could see visually wrong with it and not sure if it is the cause of my random periods of "non subbage" or not.

New amp seems to be working just fine, hopefully this will be the end of my troubles. shipping my old amp back to the US depot tomorrow.
