Does anyone use the Denon avr-3311 with M80's? This receiver is rated for 6-8ohms not 4ohms. I woudn't want to blow it up. Any comments would be appreciated.

Denon is known to work well with 4 ohm rated speakers despite what the manufacturer states as being rated at 6 or 8 ohms. If there is an impedance switch on the AVR leave it set to the highest setting. If this Denon unit has the features you want then buy it. Keep the unit well ventilated and you shouldn't run into any issues. For more indepth information, there is an article which relates to your exact question below.

The 3311 will drive your M80s all day long to stupid loud levels (unless you are in a really big room).

I'm using an older 2808 on my M80s and have never even come close to shutdown. Denon makes receivers with beefy amps.

The 2808 is the earlier version of the 3311 and my much older lower end 1804 ran the M80s with out any trouble as does my present 3808 neither of which are rated for 4 ohms.

Never had any problems with my 2809/M80 anchored setup.

N, pretty much the same answer as applied five years ago relating to your Onkyo 801: the 3311 can drive the M80s to beyond safe listening levels. The basic reason that it doesn't have an "official" 4ohm rating(magazine lab tests show substantial 4ohm capability for such units in real-world applications)is that it would have to pass severe tests, including five continuous minutes of full rated power operation into a 4ohm load under FTC regulations, for an unrestricted 4ohm rating. Relax and enjoy.

You're right. I didn't notice that. I prefer to think that John has super-memory or is perhaps audio-omnimpotent.
