EP175 no sound

Hello all, I have a 5 year old EP175 that has seemed to give up the ghost. I have no sound comming from it but I have power. I checked the fuse and its good. There is no sound when I plug/un-plug the RCA input like there normally used to be. I am not 100% sure its not the receiver but I am not sure how to test that.

Any ideas?

Hi StevetheWW,

Check the cable at the receiver pre-out level if it is correctly inserted or if there is any noticeable damage with the input. Double check the menu settings of the receiver that the subwoofer is set to yes/on. Check the controls on the back of the sub itself.

As a last resort, turn off the EP175 and unplug it from the electrical outlet for a few hours. Re-connect the cables and try again if you can hear any sound.

P.S. You can also check internally if a wire is disconnected.

I've heard it said to plug rca into subwoofer, but unplug other end and put a 9 volt battery on the 2 different connections on the plug and see if the speaker moves in or out when you do this. If it moves then it's probably not the SW.

I have tried all of those suggestions. I have triple checked all the receiver settings. I even tried a new RCA cable.

I just tried this trick and nothing out of the sub. I am guessing the amp must be blown??

Try leaving it unplugged for a few hours and not just on/off instantly (if you have not done already).

If you have an extra receiver, hook the EP175 up to it.

Steve, welcome. Yes, leave the sub unplugged for a substantial period of time, but first disconnect one of your main speaker wires and connect it instead to the corresponding pair of speaker level inputs on the EP175(disconnect the coaxial cable RCA plug)to determine that the problem isn't in the receiver sub out.
