I just set up my first subwoofer I've ever owned (Epik Empire) with my Axiom 5.0 setup. After doing the sub crawl and finding the best place for it and running my receiver calibration I starting testing it out as best I could. My girlfriend started to come up the driveway and came in with a very scared look on her face. I never told her that I was getting a sub at the time, and I don't think she even knew what a subwoofer was.
She came in and saw the huge box the sub came in and then I showed her the sub itself. "Good grief, why is it so big??" she asked. She said that she could hear a loud roar from the road before she pulled into the driveway and thought that it was just the car that passed her by that she thought must of had a very loud exhaust, and was thinking how annoying it was to hear cars go by with loud mufflers...but then soon realized the loud roar was actually coming from the house. She still has not quite gotten used to the bass that we now have from the Empire. I insisted we watch War of the Worlds the other night (knowing it'd be an excellent use of the sub) and we both were amazed at the difference the Empire makes now from having no sub at all. Very glad I made the investment. I definitely plan on adding at least one more in the future.

Very nice. Yeah, it makes everything that much more fun with the right movies. You know you're getting somewhere in the hobby when your significant other comes in with a look of concern.

Congrats on the new purchase. I agree a good sub makes a world of difference to the entire experience.
I trust you have the sub calibrated with the rest of the speakers? Also the sub crawl may have revealed the most loud place for the sub and the best place for the sub. That spot could be accentuating a hump in the frequency. Try the crawl again and look for the smoothest spot and not the loudest spot.

The sub crawl allowed me to find the spot it sounded best to me in. I initially had it in front to the left of the TV, but after doing the crawl test I found it sounded and felt MUCH better in the back corner that's only about 3-4 feet away from the listening position. After that was done, I ran the Pioneer MCACC and let the receiver do the adjusting. I know there's more that can be done but I think it sounds really nice now so I'm not sure if I want to bother tweaking anything else.

There really isn't much more other than running REW or similar program and tweaking forever . As long as it sounds good to you and isn't too over/under powering be happy .

It's a very nice sub. I'll post some pics in another thread when I get a chance.
