This Samsung PN50C7000YF looks like a fine Plasma TV. I've just started researching for something that looks like perhaps a keeper and is bigger than my 37 in and will fit on the wall space that I have. I think I can squeeze this one in. It's almost 48 inch wide. If I get one it will probably be around the 1st of next year, or later.

Anybody have any experience with the Samsung Plasmas?

They have good reviews by most accounts, the biggest problem in the past has been humming from their power supplies, whether or not this is still the case I have no idea.

I believe Cam had an issue with his 58" Plasma and the panel was replaced(?) or I might be thinking of my inlaws which had a similar problem and I know the panel was replaced on theirs. As I mentioned in another thread, if you like the PQ, size and the price, buy it. researching them only makes you frustrated as there are problems with all flatscreens that people can find fault with, just look at AVS forums on flatscreens, on second thought don't it drove me nuts reading all the positive comments only to find almost as many negative ones.

Yeah Jay, you're right, although I HAVE mad an issue with my TV. Mine has to do with what looks like static across the entire screen. Long story short- I'll never purchase another Samsung TV because I believe I've been treated unfairly, they aren't standing by their product, and their customer service is horrendous.

The humming you mention was a problem with the following years model.

I've had 2 Samsung LCD TV's so far, and no problems whatsoever. I would suspect to find similar problems when dealing with customer service of just about any of these manufacturers, though. Are you talking about a tv in or out of warranty?

Here's a quick link to the AVS forum for this series of TV.

Edit: This is a long thread. A little over 100 pages. I'm just a little of the way into it, but am learning a lot. The newer Samsung Plasmas have eliminated the buzzing noise.

Sorry to hear that they never solved your problem Cam, that is really terrible C/S.

Cat after a quick look over some the posts on AVS it looks to have a similar good vs bad owner reviews, with some still complaining about buzzing.

You must be referring to this comment from page 5.

"This is the one complain I have with the c8000. I head a buzzing sound from 8+ feet away. I can hear it during normal viewing unless their is some constant noise in the program. Its audible during moments of calm and talking.

This is annoying to me, but I may be overly sensitive to it. My wife can hear it but it doesn't bother her. This the exact same sound as the Panasonic VT20 I listened to at Best Buy the other day, but on that one I could only hear it if I put my head behind the set.

I posted a video of it on another thread. One person commented they could hear it, several others said they couldn't."

Edit: One glaring consensus on the AVS forum is the Panasonic's are much better than the Samsung for the 2010 models. Samsung concentrated too much on 3D and let other areas, like black levels, slide.

Edit: But on the other hand Samsung has outstanding shadow detail and 2d to 3d conversion logic that the Panasonic doesn't have..... Yikes.

Some more from page 7. I hope people don't mind if I do this this way.

"I heard the buzzing on the mkv video. I dont know how anyone could not hear the buzzing in your video. If they didnt hear it they probably didnt turn up their speakers loud enough or were watching the youtube version of your video. You can really hear the buzzing in your video when you turn on the 3d.

I personally would return my set if it buzzed like yours does. And if you cant exchange it for another Samsung that doesnt buzz I would exchange it for a Panny or an LG. However each of those manufactures seem to have their own issues as well.

Panny = Floating Blacks and Black Level Rising
LG = Image Retention, Very Reflective Screen
Samsung = Buzzing

Just my thoughts."

Edit: A little more:

"I was the first one to state I heard the buzzing. Yes you need to watch the mvk file and turn the speakers up. You really hear it when he turns on the 3d , you hear the tone change. Before that though some might think it is just speaker noise."

Quote from page 12.

"i just recieved my c7000 this morning and i can verify that after changing the model number on the service menu to c8000, i got the cinema smooth option, motion judder canceler and cal-day cal-night under the picture menu"

Apparantly you can change the model number from c7000 to c8000 in the service menu and you get some of the options of the C8000 that the c7000 isn't supposed to have.

One more from page 17 before I quit for tonight. I found this one amusing.

"So let me get this right. Samsung issues a firmware update for the C7000 which causes the motion interpolation system to be FORCED ON, and CANNOT be turned off. And the only way to disable it is to "hack" your TV model to a C8000.

If this is true then I don't think Samsung should be making TV's at all!!"
