I’m in the process of selecting a new speaker system for our home theatre and I’ve settled on Axiom after reading all the great reviews.

I could use some advice on a center channel, I’d like to go in-wall if possible for the L/C/R and so would go with M22’s for the left & right channels. However, Axiom doesn’t seem to make an in-wall version of the M150 (only the in-wall/on-wall hybrid) so I’m wondering how the M100 might compare to the M2 as a center channel? I do have the space under my screen to install a 3rd M22 but it would be quite close to the floor so I assume that isn’t a good idea acoustically unless I were to angle it up. I also plan to get QS4’s or QS8’s and a sub (EP350 or EP500).

Some room details - 12’X17’ (8’ ceiling), sitting about 16’ away from the front speakers. The L/R channels would be about 7’ feet apart. Listening is 90% HT and 10% music and we typically do not play it loud.

Appreciate any feedback!!

Personally, I would go with the M2 as center channel. I have the VP100 in/on wall and I'm not satisfied with the timbre match with the M22's. The in-wall M2 should be much closer IMO. Although, I would give some thought to mounting a VP150 box speaker either on the wall or on a short stand under the TV.

You will probably not want to sit that close to the back wall. From what others have said in the past is, if you have the room, move your sitting position a few feet from the back wall for better sound.

Personally I would be out driving the GTCS and never be in my HT so the speaker decision would be moot.

The Cat gives good advice.

Thanks guys!!

Unfortunately the car goes away soon for the winter so I’ll need something else to keep me entertained until the snow clears.

Any thoughts on a pair of M2’s in parallel as a center, or is that just over-kill?

I've experimented with pairs of M22's as L/R and unless they are vertically aligned, you will experience distracting sound artifacts. You could go with one above the screen and one below the screen, but I wouldn't put 2 side by side.

Edit: If I remember correctly, it had sort of being in a tunnel effect.

There is a VP100 in-wall.

That's probably what I would do.

Or put a VP150 on a short stand - if you are positioning the center "under" the screen, you might want some flexibility about aiming, placement, etc.

Agree with CatBrat about using 2 M2's. That's not going to be a very elegant install, either.

If you're doing THAT much HT in that room, make sure you get a good sub (either of the ones you mentioned are excellent choices). And you probably only need 5.1 (not 7.1) if you're sitting that close to the back wall. I'd get QS8's (the 4's don't save you that much money) and mount them on the back wall a foot or two in from the corners.

There's also a VP150 in cabinet, which probably requires a bigger hole than an in-wall.

I forgot about that one.

Just wondering. Has anybody done any A/B comparisons with a tower vs. in-cabinet version?

Regarding the VP150 in-cabinet, I guess that’s why it’s not classified on the website as an “in-wall”, it’s about 6” deep so too deep for a standard 2X4 wall. But great suggestion, I hadn’t looked at the in-cabinet speakers. I had hoped to go with an all in-wall setup in front for a more stealth look.

Appreciate the advice re: the QS8's, very helpful. I was wondering about surround setup as well.

If I do go with the M2 I had assumed I’d mount it in its natural vertical position but could I mount it horizontally as well?

That depends where the clips are and how much the mout relies on gravity to hold the speaker in.
