I wouldn't bother with a DAC at all, since you're going into a receiver, which has it's own DAC. The optical converter which John linked to is the way to go.

So get a Wi-Fi enabled Squeezebox, or any other wireless player with an optical/coax connection. But analog outs into a high-end receiver is just silly, and redundant.

I'm saying the result will probably be better than or at lest equal to any other exotic DAC you may find. The DACs in the receiver are really good. Additionally if you go into the stereo inputs of a receiver more than likely the analog signal will pass through an ADC, be processed by the receiver and then output through its own DAC anyway.

I was just making a funny, Chris smile . You're right, it is redundant; but then again, so is having two functional legs. Either hop on one, or go with none grin .

That's funny, and I needed that laugh today.

Thanks, Cam!

I use a Nuforce Icon Mobile USB DAC/Amp for listening to music on my computer with my Grado headphones. (I also the amplifier portion for headphone listening with my iPod with high bit rate music.) I think the quality is excellent in those applications, and it only costs $99. If you have a receiver with a 'straight through' analog audio mode (one that doesn't run through a ADC/DAC) I think it would give good results in that use also.
