I've read the other threads and while they come close to getting me where I need to be, I thought I'd lay out my questions and not attempt to hi-jack someone else's thread.

Ok, so as of two weeks ago I was listening to sound through my tv. Just got my first batch of stuff and am wanting more.

My setup consists of an Onkyo SR608, a pair of M22s (stands en route and damn they are pricey), and a SVS PC12 (also en route and probably overkill for my first sub).

I have a small apartment and want a center channel. I sit no more then 10ft from the tv. I can fit the v100 in my "cabinet" below the tv, but unfortunately the v150 is too long and won't fit. Should I go with another m22 and lay it on its side or a v100 or figure out how to make the v150 fit? It would seem that either center's upward "angle" would be nice as the speaker would be below the tv and I am not sure about having a bookshelf laying on its side.

Side note - to round everything out some surround speakers would be nice, but it'd be difficult to wire them up in my apartment. Any reasonably priced non-Axiom wireless surrounds out there that's match with the setup?

Thanks in advance.

From my experience with owning a VP100 and a VP150 I believe a VP100 will serve you well, optimally the best case scenario would be to have a third M22 standing vertically for a three sweep of M22's for your front soundstage but you definitly don't want to place an M22 on it's side.

Welcome aboard and congrats on the new digs!

You should feel very comfortable going with the VP100. A lot of folks around here are on a matching front three kick, which is theoretically optimal. Functionally, however, it is often non-optimal, nor is it always the most aesthetic set up. Indeed, it looks a little different than most standard set-ups that folks have grown accustomed to looking at, with a vertical Left and Right and a horizontal Center.

The difference going from a 2.0 to a 3.0 system, with a VP100 laid horizontally will be significant. I don't think you'll find many folks recommending you get a third M22 and laying it on its side, though. If the horizontal orientation is a necessity, go with the VP100 and don't look back.

In re: wireless surrounds - don't let the fear of running wires scare you off. Know that wireless speakers need to be plugged into the wall to work, so wires are unavoidable.

You can buy white (or any other color) speaker wire and tack it to the baseboard just like the cable TV line without it looking bad. There is also flat wire that you can buy (available from Axiom or from third parties). I used a flat wire product that was no thicker than a business card. When laid flat on the wall using a spray on glue compound, after applying a little feathered spackle and a paint job, the wires were indetectable except on very close inspection. This helps with the eyesore of wires on the wall.

Surround sound might be one of the biggest improvements in the whole "movie sound" experience, for me at least. If the sound is immersive, full and rich, it is much easier to be drawn into the picture. In fact, given a choice between a high def 100" screen with wimpy, stereo sound, and a 42" standard def screen and a kickin' 5.1 sound system, I choose the 5.1 every time.

I'd got with some QS8s - they are an incomparable speaker - I think they might be Axiom's best. Other companies make great floor standers and bookshelf speakers - some that migth even sound better than Axiom. NOBODY makes surround speakers that perform as well as the QS8s.

I"m in the same boat with my upstairs theater. Our new entertainment cabinet will only accomodate a VP100, which I haven't purchased yet. You can flip the cabinet over so it is angled upwards.

A sub I can understand, but you have a boat in your upstairs theatre?

Adrian I believe having a boat in the upstairs living area is a perquisite for living in Iowa since the state was completely flooded a couple of years back, a policy dictated by the insurance companies ... 'flood policy', right Randy?

As long as the front pedestal seat of the bass boat is in the sweet spot, why not!! hey, it would be just like you're out on the lake when you watch your favourite fishing show!!

I sit in a dinghy whenever I watch Master and Commander.

Joyce walks by once in awhile and throws a glass of water in my face.

It's all 4D and stuff.
