I've never liked Don Cherry, as I of find his opinions completely asinine (he also attacked my neurosurgeon, Dr. Charles Tator, who is world renowned). His opinions expressed in this video, although not surprising, prove quite succinctly that he's a loathsome, self-aggrandizing prick.

Anyway, enjoy this moron in all his glory.

Everyone's view is different of course.

An old friend of mine, and a recent quadriplegic at the time (probably 20 years ago now), was in Ottawa recovering and going through therapy. He and a roommate who were both Habs fans wrote to Cherry saying they were in the hospital, big Habs fans, etc. etc.

The next time Cherry was in Ottawa, shortly after they sent the letter, he came by their hospital room. No cameras, no CBC article on it. Chewed the fat with them, gave them some autographed jerseys (or some kind of memorabilia if i recall).

The guy may have a big mouth but he does do alot of charity work.

That was extremely nice of him, very generous. I'm aware of his charity work, he likes to toot his horn about it all the time. In my opinion "when the left hand gives, the right hand shouldn't know" (the adage goes something like that), every time someone donates their time or money. If someone makes ten donations, but takes credit on their own accord for one, then the other nine shouldn't be considered charity; and Don Cherry is far from humble (just like Oprah or Bill Gates (The Bill Gates Foundation).

As an aside-my sister is good friends with someone that knows Bobby Orr very well. Her friend asked Bobby two autographs a picture for me, and, well, here it is (excuse the quality)-

Cool Bobby Orr pic!

Please, can we not hold up Bill Gates as a paragon of philanthropic virtue? As a Washingtonian, I will tell you plainly that his monetary interference in public education has done more harm than good.

As an American, I have no valid opinion on Don Cherry.

Oop's, Tom; maybe I worded my last post incorrectly. I had no intention of canonizing Bill Gates smile.

And if Peter was something else other than what he possibly is, what would he be?

(this sounds like a question medic8r asks him patients).

I watched the Don Cherry clip. He seemed to lack the respect and decorum called for by the occasion. I thought it was embarrassing for the mayor and for those in attendance.
