I would suggest small on the m80s with just LFE (not +main). Crossover anywhere from 40 - 80hz, whatever sounds best to you.

You could also experiment with the LFE+main setting to see if you like the results but I found that it was too much "double bass" for my 3808, m80, and ep500 combo.

I would not recommend setting m80s to large allthough I think with the +main setting it doesn't matter if the fronts are large or small but perhaps I am wrong there.

I think I am currently using 60 hz for movies and 40 hz for music but I'm not 100% certain.

Remember that in the 3808 there is a separate place to adjust the speaker size and crossover for 2 channel stereo listening.

Question, when I set the sub mode to LFE... is that supposed that cut out the subs on the M80s?? The reason I ask is because it seems like it doesn't matter what setting it is (LFE OR LFE+MAIN), I'm getting more "thump" from my music on the fronts than from the 800... is that normal?

more info:

- Have the 800 set to 11 o'clock (but have to put it to 3 o'clock for me to get the same thump (with music) that I get with the M80s.

- I've tried the phase, and the 180 and 0

- I've tried frequency at 40, 60, and more...

- to get the thump I like when playing music I have to set the the sub to +15 and the sub volume to the maximum setting (+6)

It's weird, the 800 surpasses my expectations it comes to home theatre (movies), but when it comes to music... meh... room for improvement

LFE means that the M80s roll off the frequencies below the crossover to the subwoofer.

LFE+MAIN means that the M80s play full range (no roll off) but the frequencies below the crossover are also played by the subwoofer. Onkyo calls this “Double Bass.”

With both these setting the subwoofer is playing the frequencies below the crossover so you should always hear more thump.

What exactly do you mean my “thump?” Are you talking about the thump you get in your chest? If so that is in the midbass region. Depending on where you have your subwoofer placed you could have a midbass null like I have in my room. Even with the best placement I couldn’t get rid of the null until Charles sold me his SVS AS-EQ1. Before that I got better midbass thump from my M80s now with the EQ flattening out the null I get just as good midbass from my EP500 though I still think it feels/sounds tighter coming from the M80s. Try moving your subwoofer around to other locations and see how it sounds/feels.

Hadn’t thought about that. Maybe the accessory pack should include a hand truck. smile

For 2 channel stereo listening edit the speaker size and crossover here:
manual setup->audio setup-> 2 channel direct/stereo

I think the adjustments for surround listening is just manual setup-> speaker config
