Marc, the reason that the wires from both receivers shouldn't be attached to the same speaker terminal is that the power doesn't know that it's supposed to go only into the speaker. Instead, it'll also run up the other wire into the output transistors of the other receiver, damaging them.

Ah, good call. I should have known there was more at risk then just the speakers.
