just curious as to what the optimum height is for side and rear mounting QS4/8's? also, if anyone knows, what is the allowable range for good sound (how low to how high). thanks!

Vort,
I have the qs8's. They are so dynamic that it hardly matters. I've tried them in various locations. My favorite is five feet back and high up. For me, I set the speaker levels for them higher on the receiver, and the extra distance gives me a bit more separation and imaging. They are spectacular, and in dolby pro logic II for music they are unmatchable -- crystal clear, for the high trebs. It might make sense to try them at different location to see what fits into the acoustics of your room. Unfortunately, the range these speakers have, make them sound differently depending on watch sound track is playing...

I remember reading something Alan wrote about this in another thread. It was specifically answeriing a question about the QS8s, but should apply equally to the 4s. His counsel was to have the top of the speaker at about 7' above the floor. He also went on (have seen this comment numerous times) to explain that these guys are very forgiving.
He also suggested using a step ladder to test them out and see what works best for you.
