Beautiful cabinet, Bob! I'm in the works of getting everything together (you may have seen my thread), and hope to start on the project next week or the week after. The idea I got from AVS is identical to yours.

One question if I may-what did you use to frame around each component on the front of the cabinet?

Thanks,
Cam

Thanks Cam. I did see your thread, I posted a reply.

I used 0.80” aluminum (6061 T6 if I recall correctly). Bought a large sheet from Metal Supermarkets http://www.metalsupermarkets.com/ and cut individual pieces for each component (once the shelve heights were set).

Don't hesitate to ask if you have any other questions. Happy to help.

Bob

Ooops, that's 0.08" not 0.80"

Thanks, Bob; I figured it was aluminum, as it looks identical to the custom aluminum cabinet front that I saw on AVS.

I'm sure I'll have more questions down the road smile.

Thanks again,
Cam

Great clean job Bob! How did you attach the aluminum sheets? Where they screwed into supporting joists on the left/right sides? What type of screws did you use? Looks like allen nuts. Did the aluminum come in black or did you have to paint them? What did you use to cut the sheets?

Thanks,
Stanmanh

Thanks Stanmanh.

Re: How did you attach the aluminum sheets, I trimmed the edges of the rough opening with 2X2's and screwed the plates on top.

Re: What type of screws did you use, I used some Torx head screws I found at Lowes and some finishing washers

Re: Did the aluminum come in black or did you have to paint them, I painted them. Used Mar-Hyde (black satin automotive trim coating)

Re: What did you use to cut the sheets, used a jigsaw with a metal cutting blade. Then filed the cuts to finish them off.

FYI - Got the idea from this thread on AVS DIY A/V rack

Hope that helps, any other questions just let me know.

Bob
