Well they arrived today. I've been setting up and snapping a few pics to show you. I've been listening a little, but it's way too soon to make any judgments.

I must make one observation, though. I've been a professional musician (vocalist, guitarist) all my life, until a few years ago when a paralyzed nerve in my larynx ended the singing (miss that most of all), and rheumatoid arthritis brought a halt to playing. So, it's been a long time since I've heard the sound of a guitarist's fingers sliding on the strings. Marvelous!

When I've spent some time with them, I'll give my impressions.

The HSU STF-2 lurks beneath the lamp, clock, and drawer at the far left. The open space in the equipment rack on the right (middle shelf) was occupied by a Bravo D1 which went back. It's reserved for a Bravo D2 (I think) which comes out in a month or so. I'm keeping my options open, but I must say that I'm suffering from DVI withdrawal. I've been watching my DVDs on the Onkyo just below the open space, which I normally use for listening to CDs. It's not bad for DVDs, but the component output just isn't the same as the Bravo's DVI output. Miss it.

More later.

Nice pics Jack! I hope you end up as thrilled as I am with my new set. I'm going to try to post some pictures in the next few days.

Just reading the first part of your note, I was beginning to wonder if you answered to the name "Lucky" ! I'm sure these guys will cheer you up!

raj, looks like you decided to try the Axioms. Great news! Did you try any other brands that you liked as well? I'm sure we'd all be interested in your comparisons, especially if you had the option to A/B any other ones in your own house. Which Pio, 53TX?

Hi Cesar

Yea, i took the dive...Klipsch was another line i was really interested in. I have posted my thoughts here.

It was a very hard decision, between klipsch and axiom. The dealer gave me a great quote based on axiom's price. So it was all the more harder....but finally as u find in my review thoughts , i went with axioms.....

Yup 53tx, its gonna be home tomorrow....boy this 14th my wife is up against 6 new valentines...its gonna be fun!!!

Raj

PS I did shoot u a personal email as soon as i placed my order...Did u get it?

Maybe see if the Klipsch dealer is willing to let you bring in the M22's to A/B. That'd be an interesting comparison.

Jack, that is a really cool looking installation! Thanks for sharing.

One thing caught my eye - are the M22's positioned back a bit from the front of the "shelf" they are on? If so, you might want to put them closer to the edge to avoid some early diffractions that could compromise their imaging.

Nice TV, btw

"PS your axiom id reminds me of a soccer team in holland..."

OK gnrajagopal. Ya gotta explain that one. Is there a Dutch soccer team called "the Ajax"?

tomtuttle. "are the M22's positioned back a bit from the front of the "shelf" they are on"?

Yes they are. It's one of the problems I have with my setup. I was gonna do a separate post on it, but since you asked.....

First, I am still experimenting with speaker positioning. As I understand it the optimum positioning of the front 3 speakers is in a gentle arc so that the "sweet spot" is roughly equidistant from each speaker.

Even if I put the 22s right on the front edge of the pine boards on which they are currently sitting, in order to achieve that arc, I'd have to move the VP150, and the shelf on which it sits, back underneath the pine boards on which the TV sits. It would not be physically difficult to do that, but it is my understanding that that position would be less than desirable because of the 8 to 12 inches of overhang of the pine boards which would be right above the center. Although, in my case, the VP150 would still have about 5 inches of space on each side, and I could leave the drivers a little extended past the lip of the shelf on which the VP150 sits, as it is now.

Also, because of circumstances which, at the moment, are uncorrectable, the primary seating position is only about 8 feet from the TV set. That's why the 22s are, at the moment, set back some.

Another drawback to my setup is that, because of the height of the pine boards, the tweeters of the 22s is about a foot higher than I would like them to be. You might be able to see in the photo, just behind the VP150 there is an air conditioner in the wall. Place was built in the late 40's or early 50's before they figured out that hot air rises and cold air falls, and therefore air conditioners should be placed high on a wall, not low. DUH!

So, I can't really lower anything. It's bad enough that the AC is blowing at the back of the VP150. I don't really want it blowing at the back of the TV, for two reasons. One, I don't think it would be good for the TV. And two, It's tough enough as it is to get the cold air into the room. I put a Vornado fan under the VP150 in the summer to blow the AC air into the room.

Maybe I oughta just move. If you could see my basement, you'd know why that's outa the question.

I will be experimenting with different positions, and I'm open to any and all suggestions. HELP!

There are advantages, and disadvantages to any of the current technologies but, yeah Tom, in general, I'm very happy with my Sammy DLP.

Jack, do you have the option of pulling the two component units out far enough to set the M22s on them? Might need to separate them a bit too. You would be able to set a 2x8 up behind each unit to support the main shelf.

Man..plenty of reasons to envy you..axioms ordered and in place, and you're "fighting" the heat.

Well, I'm not fighting the heat NOW. I'm freezing my a** off in Cleveland, Ohio. Born in Detroit, by the way.

Weird! The entire web site is in dutch, but they've got the name of the team in english.

Thanks, Nick.

Not really, Ray. The TV is sitting on 2 pine boards, which I stained and finished, each about 10 inches wide. If I pull out the component units (actually they are printer stands) enough to get the 22s on them, the back board would fall off the stands, and so would my TV.

Plus, I've only got about 9 inches from the front of the component unit to the arm of the couch you see in the left side of the photo. But thanks anyway. That's what I'm looking for. All suggestions are welcome.

Jack, as Tom suggested, move the speakers forward, if possible, and get the "arc" electronically by delaying the center speaker in your receiver. Consider turning the M22s upside down.

Just Ajax (pronounce it "EYE-yax")... based in Amsterdam, they're currently 3 points up on PSV... one of the teams I cheer and follow.
