the previous owner left a set of Mordaunt Short Avant 900i series 7.1 speakers in the HT room.
Are they very good speakers compared to M60/VP150?
have not heard any MS before and I can only test it after my electrician finished checking all the wiring in the house.

Hi mpyw,
Back when I edited audio/video magazines, in the '80s and '90s, Mordaunt Short speakers were mediocre, quite colored sounding compared to Axioms in our tests for the magazine (Sound&Vision Canada).
At the time, I had lunch with Christopher Short, and suggested he use the NRC program in Ottawa as a way to improve his speakers. He wasn't amused by my suggestion, quite typical of British speaker designers' reactions of the time, who disliked the scientific approach to speaker design and listening tests that the NRC program under Dr. Floyd Toole espoused.
I believe he sold the company some years later. I don't know who is designing the line now, so perhaps they have improved.

I've flipped through a few British audio magazines. I don't think they are aware that speakers are made in other countries.
Half of communication is listening. You can't listen with your mouth.

it's the same with the magazines that criticize new music recordings; i've read "The Gramophone" for many years, and most of the time they would find that the best interpretation/recording quality was on british recordings.

I've flipped through a few British audio magazines. I don't think they are aware that speakers are made in other countries. The ironic and I suppose somewhat hypocritical thing about this attitude with B & W, is although I am not sure about the "Nautilus" series, other than the Flagship "800" line, everything else they sell is now "Made in China".

I don't see anything wrong being made in China as long as the quality is the same as made in the home country. The China speaker brand Aurum Cantus is receiving very good review from lots of country and besides B&W, PSB, SVS and Emotiva are also mostly made in China. Also, just got feedback from my speaker business friend said the the MS Avant series is an entry level series and my Axiom can beat them up easily

You're only saying that because you don't have to cross the International Date Line to get there.
Always call the place you live a house. When you're old, everyone else will call it a home.
