For the gear heads around here....... This is one of the best video's I've seen. Motortrend track test / shoot out - 2011 Mustang GT 500 vrs 2011 Corvette Z06 vrs 2012 GTR. http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/coup...jbpjYGdRcR5pDKrIt's too bad he disabled all the vette's nannies. There are four different settings and it's widely known you are taking your life into your hands if you completely disable all of them (much like the Viper). The GTR can turn anyone into a race car driver. Amazing car. The GT 500 just weighs too much and the solid axle kills it.

Read the article a couple of days ago. Some car companies are slow learners...it's all about power-to-weight, not absolute power.

Ya, power to weight and the ability to put it to the ground. I had a 2900 pound 69 nova making 750hp a couple decades ago. Street legal tires and it was worthless for anything other than smoke shows. With racing slicks it was terrifying and took an act of God for me to keep it in a straight line.
Weight distribution is pretty for important too, and often overlooked.
The ZL1 looks pretty sweet Randy. Hopefully, they shave a few hundred pounds off of it, but that's doubtful seeing how GM seams to be more interested in creature comforts.
That dual clutch auto the GTR is pretty impressive though.

Speaking of power to weight and putting it to the ground ... my son and I watched these guys Sunday night at Volusia County Speedway, FL. 1375lbs w/driver, 850hp on a 1/2 mile dirt track @ 143 mph = hauling the mail! If you like this type of racing and have never seen a World of Outlaws race I strongly suggest you do yourself a favor and go personally watch a race, these cars are bad ass fast to the bone. World of Outlaws...

I wish they'd resurrect something like the old CanAmm series back in the 60s-70s. Those were some pieces of Mocheenery!

I've built a few 410 sprint engines Rick. Never had the nuts to drive one of the cars though. The engines are all aluminum chevy small blocks burning an unbelievable amount of alcohol through a combination of 'dumb' fuel injection through an intake manifold and down nozzles that feed directly into the head's combustion chambers. They run around 15/1 static CR, use dry sump oil systems and crank case vac pumps to keep the rings seated. They have so much dirt ingested that extra alcohol is needed to wash the cylinders and all clearances have to be tailored to this as well. They are a sonofabitch to build and usually only good for one race. I lost my ass on them, so stopped building them and stuck to the standard roundy rounds and drag engines.

Rick, you need to make it up to the Sprint Capital of the world, Knoxville, IA.

I continue to be amazed at the Message Boards' encyclopedic community knowledge. I don't know squat about how cars work, but after reading Michael's post, I feel like I've got to get the grease out from under my fingernails. Well done.
