I am now a new owner of Axiom speakers. I just received my vp150 today and waiting on my new M60's. I was originally going to get the 80's though but felt the 60's would serve me well for my needs. These speakers are replacing my Paradigm Monitor series speakers, the 11v5's and the CC290v5. They served me well and thought they were fantastic for the price I paid for them. I have sold them and are being enjoyed by someone else now. The Axioms will be complimented by my Mini Monitor v5's which I will use as my rear speakers for the time being. They will be powered by my Yamaha htr6190(rxv1800) receiver. I have hooked up the vp150 and used with my Mini Monitors which I am using as mains until my 60's arrive. A good test for centre channel speakers I like to use is the voice of Morgan Freeman. Either it be from his acting roles or commentary in various programs and movies such as War of the Worlds. I have read many reviews saying the vp150 sounds tinny, hollow, weak and not up to par etc etc. I listened to the vp150 by itself and complemented by the mains and am still trying to listen for these different characteristics different people have suggested about the speaker. In my room I found the sound to be full bodied, clean, clear and had no problem listening understanding dialogue. I have the speaker crossed at 80hz and I sit directly in front of the speaker and cannot comment too much on off axis characteristics. I haven't listened to it extensively but am glad I made this purchase. I was a little hesitant at first as it might not be up to snuff as others have described. My room measurements are 12Wx24Lx9H and I sit 9.5 feet from the TV/centre channel. The centre channel is also angled up towards the listening position as it is located on the middle shelf of my rack. With my previous centre I experimented with a 1 inch binder wedged underneath to angle the speaker up and found it made dialogue more intelligible. I have a coffee table in the middle of the couch and entertainment centre. Another reason why I liked the vp150 was the fact you had to option to angle it. It is quite a bit smaller than my previous centre as it is 14 lbs lighter and a few inches shorter but wider by 3/4 of an inch. This made it easier for installing and hooking up my speaker cable since I have more room to play with on my rack.

I will play with it some more and post more comments after my 60's get integrated.

I would have loved to get the vp180 but it was a little to big for my stand and didn't pass the fiance approval test. Axiom have any plans for a vp160 in the future?

What can I expect from my 60's compared to the Monitor 11's I previously had. I have read comments they sound similar but more like the Studio line which is where I want to be going and not a lateral switch.

Also in the market for a subwoofer. Any comments on the new updates from SVS. I seen a SVS SB12 NSD from the new line on sale for 525 plus shipping. Would this compliment the 60's or should I look for something else. Looking for a sub that doesn't break the bank.

Thanks guys.

It is still time to get a different fiancee! Just kidding smile
Glad you enjoy the VP150. Looking for your impressions of the M60s.

The SVS SB12 NSD is a relatively small, sealed, DSP based subwoofer. It would compare directly to the EP400. These subs have certain applications that work best in smallish type rooms using multiple subwoofers. Unfortunately I think you would asking that single sub to do too much to fill your 2600cu/ft room and since its sealed in that small of an enclosure you will not get that great of extension and output down towards 20hz. Perhaps a dual application might work better but then you will be hitting those price points of some bigger ported designs which will work much better for home theater IMO. Start saving those pennies...lol.

I have the M80's and VP150 and find that it's either a case of too much or not enough. Speaking that if I turn up the VP a notch its too much, but it's just not quite able to keep up with those M80's at equal value.

I think you will be fine with the M60's, but with my setup the VP180 would not work. I might get another VP150 for the bottom of the TV tho.

BTW where are our manners.

Congrats on your newest purchase and welcome to Axiom. I know you will be happy with your purchase. Many people on here go with one of three brands of subs, Axiom, SVS, HSU. There are MANY others but those seem to be kicked around the most. The only reason I don't have an Axiom sub is budget. IMO i was able to get the most for my room out of an SVS. The PB12 NSD will flat out impress you for 600 dollars. If Axiom had a comparable product for that price I would have bought it. I do not recommend getting the sealed for your setup not because it is sealed but i feel you simply wont have enough horse power and will want to upgrade too fast.

I hope someone else will chime in on this but I would also suggest considering getting the QS4 or QS8's before a sub. Those surrounds are really impressive and for movies make a difference but then again so will a sub. tough call, buy em both :-)

Very good, Chris. As Brian mentioned, I'd suggest that you get QSs for side surrounds as the next step, rather than the sub. The M60s will have good enough bass so that a sub, while certainly desirable, isn't immediately essential. The QSs add a lot to the enjoyment of both 2-channel(using a mode such as DPLII)and multi-channel source materials. If you keep the Mini Monitors they could be used as back surrounds in a 7.1 setup.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

I use my ep500 almost exlusively for BD. M60's alone for music. One night, watched 2 movies w/o realizing the sub wasn't on. S'that help?

If you are correct on count #1, then I must need $8k speakers to compensate.

I was complimenting the M60's. Minimizing my enthusiasm is utterly detremental to the expansion of Aimee C.'s shoe closet.

Thanks everyone for the welcome so far and thanks for the suggestions of what to do for my next step. All suggestions and opinions appreciated. I'm hoping the 60's to be in tomorrow or Thursday.

Congrats on the new purchase, I'm sure you will be very happy.

Ooooh Halifax. I was there the summer before last. Caught both the Tall Ships event and the Jazz festival. Had a great time!!!
