i would like to know if anyone can recommend groups and/or albums of good electronic music in the styles of Pink Floyd and Kraftwerk,
preferably those that have melodies and are not repetitive like club dance music.

I used to like The Art of Noise quite a bit.... but I'm not sure that's what you're looking for or not...

Never mind!

I’ve found that using the “last.fm” “Similar Artists” search can sometimes be useful in finding bands.

Orbital is pretty good. Definitely not like pink floyd, and maybe too repetitive for your taste but listen to some of their samples from amazon.

Well, I could definitely recommend the Orb since they just released and album with David Gilmour!

But for the best that modern electronic has to offer, here's a list of some of the best artists that use electronics and are very progressive musically:

Squarepusher
Aphex Twin
Amon Tobin
Luke Vibert
Mouse On Mars
Mike Paradinas
The Orb
Simon Begg

And while this group is not primarily electronic, they are heavily influenced by electronics.

And they are pretty fantastic!

Massive Attack.

Art Of Noise are incredible! Big thumbs up for that. They were very ahead of their time.

I forgot to mention Boards Of Canada. I bet you would really dig their stuff.

And of course, Thomas Dolby. Pure genius!

And other old school electronic based artist are Front 242, Brian Eno (duh!) and Cabaret Voltaire.

I only like the good stuff. I hate boring techno/rave crap.

So stay far away from Deadmau5! sick

Oh, and I left out one of the most innovative and futuristic duo that are making some of the most interesting electronic are Autechre.

Here's a video directed by Chris Cunningham (a very amazing director)

Also check out his videos for Aphex Twin:

JB, you might want to check out the Scottish band Boards of Canada.
