Amusing article. We get 'audiophile' grade sound out of reasonably priced equipment now.

There is lots of content that is exceptionally recorded, even if there is exponentially more garbage.

If Yes had just mastered their stuff a little better I'd be in heaven.

Back in the good old days, late 70s and early 80s, I was just a nose on the window audiophile. I had a decent H/K amp and some good speakers (Radian Research. Anyone ever hear of those?) But mostly I just gazed longingly at pictures in magazines discussing equipment I couldn't afford.

The one part of this article that really hit home was "just" listening to music. I do that now and my son thinks I'm beyond weird. I tried though. When he was old enough I got him a decent Yamaha receiver, some M3s, and a Hsu sub ... and he connected his iPod to it. Sigh. Still I hold out hope that he was properly seeded.

Thanks for posting the link.

Yea...I'm definitely one of those old-school sic(sic) audiopiles.

"I guess I am what you might describe as totally obsessed with sound..."

Guilty as charged. smile

I was exposed to hi-fi audio early and it's been a huge priority in my life.

Even when I was living in a studio apartment that had a futon, a beanbag and some milk crates for tables, I had a super bitchin' stereo system!

But I can certainly think of a lot worse passions to pursue!

I love sophisticated aesthetics and trying to live life with the vigor of a connoisseur, whatever your passions are.

sanctum sanctorum of sound

Indeed... grin
