Hi all,
I am looking to become part of the Axiom Family with a EP500. During my research i see that SVS and HSU also get rave reviews.

Wanted to know how this sub stacks up with them and are there any owners out there that did their due diligence on these brands before deciding on Axiom. Any comments would be much appreciated.

Anyone done some comparisons?

I have an EP500, but I also built an HT for my in-laws and for them we purchased an SVS PC Ultra13. Keep in mind these are 2 totally different sized and shaped listening environments, so any direct comparison between the 2 subs is difficult.

I'm splitting hairs saying this, but in general I do prefer the sound of my EP500 to the SVS. I find the EP has a more 'musical' or 'richer' sound to the bass than the SVS. However the SVS is capable of going seriously deep and loud and is quite adjustable with the settings included on the sub vs. the EP. Both are amazing subs and both keep me smiling all day long.

Also keep in mind my EP500 is not the latest design that Axiom offers, and the SVS my in-laws have is the previous BASH amp design which they have now updated to Sledge amps with DSP - I have no idea if that's any better or worse than the previous BASH design.

To be honest if I was in the market for another sub right now I don't know what I'd pick! There's so much to choose from. confused

Not sure if that helps you, but that's my 2 cents for the day.

SlicAx, welcome!
From all I've read, if you want a "musical" sub, stick to Axiom, if you want depth and spls, you might find better offerings from HSU, SVS, ED... for the same price range.
From your post, it sounds like this will be your first Axiom purchase and starting with their sub is a bit odd. Not that their subs are bad, just not what they're known for.

I just read up on the Epik Empire today and think this is one to keep in mind as well. Has anyone on the board heard this sub?

While this may have been true a few years ago, driver tech has vastly improved and so has the sound quality of many subs.

Those 'non-musical' subs used poorly designed sloppy drivers. In reality, they were not that good for HT either as they would have the same slop for rumbly stuff. It just might not have been as obvious.

I also think that the EP800 is quite competitive now. The price of many US offerings has gone up as the US$ has fallen.
