If anyone is in the lowermainland with a pair of M60's or M80's I would like to connect and listen to them if possible. Thanks.

I should have given a bit more information on my above post. I am interested in istening to the M60's and or M80's because I am seriously considering purchasing a pair. We have a very large 'main floor' with cathedral ceilings (20' x 40' and vaulted ceiling of 20' in about 1/4 of the room). the speakers are for a 2 channel application and dedicated to music listening. I am in the process of building the system and will likely purchase the NAD C375 BEEE intigrated amp.
It's likely I will need to add a sub due to the size of the room which I will do down the road.
It would be great if I could hear the M60's and M'80's prior to purchase.

The M80s have slightly better bass output for a fuller 2 channel sound. The M80s with a good amp can produce all the bass you need unless you are into Pipe Organ music.

Isn't Kruncher in the lower mainland?

Yes, but only 2 x M22 and 2 x QS8 here. Still, they're the same main drivers, aren't they?

Send me a PM if you'd like to hear them.

M22's with a sub is very similar to the M80's on their own, I think they are a little closer the M60's but either way this would give a very close rendition of what to expect from M80's. The M80's just have a warmer sound to them than the M22/sub combo due to better upper bass from the M80's, much of this is only noticeable to most with A/B testing anyway.

Hey Andy, for that size room, I would say 80's for sure. I've owned both 60's and 80's and they are both great for larger rooms, but for huge rooms like that I would lean towards 80's. You may find you don't need a sub, but if you do that can be purchased down the road. The 80's can handle lotsss of power.

Thanks to everyone for there input and replies. I have left a message for Kruncher to try and set up time I could listen to his M22's.
It's good to know that Sirquack thinks that I might not need a sub for this room if I go with the M80's.
I am just a bit tentative to make this purchase without 'hearing and touching' the speakers. I have to say the forums and many online reviews has made this decision easier.
Thanks again to everyone for their thoughts.
Andy

Hi Westcoast.

I have a similarly shaped room maybe not 40' wide but it's open into the kitchen so it surpasses 40 there and my vaulted ceiling is a good bit higher.

Not kicking the M80s one bit but have no fear that the M60s can handle that room. Mine do not even break a sweat and will play perfectly clean to levels well beyond what you can stand at any of those distances. In fact, I have another set in a much smaller, full HT with a sub setup in the basement but I prefer the sound of the M60s in that larger and more open space for music. My wife actually even states this preference now and then and normally, I'm thinking she isn't even ever listening.

For bass, I'm very happy with my M60s in full range mode but I've only heard the M80s in an outdoor environment so I can't compare directly. I just wanted to subdue any fear that the 60s may lack the power for your room.

Hi Murph - This is good to know. I kinda thought my only option were the M80's due to the room size. Knowing you have a simular space and very happy with the M60's is making me rethink things a bit.
Just so I am clear the M60's in your room fill the space well with sound and don't tend to sound a bit thin on the lower end bass?
We have hardwood floors on all of the main floor, lots of windows and a complete wall of kitchen cabinets. There is not a lot of sound dampening which could make speaker choice and set up challenging. Thoughts?

Wrong country, wrong coast to help you audition, but M60's can and will affect your feet, as long as they are on the floor. You were told before about putting them on the coffee table now, weren't you?

Seriously, love my M60's (19.73 months, but who's counting).

And if you are one who keeps his eyes open while listening to music, they sound much better in wood veneer.

Absolutely not an issue. Far side of the room from the speakers has a catwalk up above between the two upstairs bedrooms. That's about as far as you can get away from them and and they sound just as good up there as they do down closer at floor level. I'm sure a trained ear could speak to the differences but people like to hang out up there during parties and often comment on the excellent sound.

My floors are laminate, Lots of windows but they are mostly on the wall behind the speakers. The far wall has a stairs and lots of angles. I'm no expert on sound diffusion but I think any diffusion effects from your room makeup will effect an M60 or an M80 pretty equally.

I'm not saying an M80 doesn't have a subtle edge in some respects. Again, I'm just trying to remove worries that an M60 will not perform up to snuff if they suit your budget better as they did me. I wanted two pairs of mains so I went with the 60s and although I know in my head that the M80s sound just a bit better, I never heard them so I can't imagine better sound than I have now.

I've had m60's and m80's in my 8,000+ cu ft room. Yes, the m60's would work in the space and have very good low bass. However, there is a reason the m80's are the king of the hill. If you look at the cost difference, which is not much, I would still recommend the m80's as the will play lower and louder. also with the dual tweeters and mids, that will give you more detail for that large space. jm2cents

Again, not discrediting that 80s are better choice, just shoving some confidence towards the 60s. Some people have wives tight budgets and deserve to be happy too. laugh

But even I get upgraditis from time to time. In fact just right now, as my 2 year old HT room finally starts to reach completion, I'm craving a second sub. Logic tells me that my EP500 rock the room better than our local movie theater but I can't help wondering if I could kill those lulls from the room shape.

I appreciate your perspective Murph. You are correct, I too have a wife and therefore a budget (for speakers, not for her clothes etc, another story) I'm sure the M80's would be ideal and better yet with the 800 sub. If only money was no object...... back to reality and trying to make an informed decision from the group who has experience.
I just want to make the correct decision the FIRST time. This often saves you money in the longer run vs. going back for round two.
I did chuckle at your post Murph.....so very true

Much cheaper to get the M80s now then wishing you had later on.

The cost differential from M60's to M80s shouldn't be enough to cause problems with any spouse, adding the sub at the same time might cause troubles; I know it would for me.

Just wanted to add my 2cents to this conversation. When I first bought my M60's I really wanted the M80's but didn't want to wait any longer to save a bit more. So I bought the 60's. As much as I enjoyed them I always felt I should have gotten the M80's. Finally a few weeks ago I decided to buy the 80's. In the end it's costing me more as I am taking a loss on the sale of the 60's.

I now save up for exactly what I want rather than regretting what I settled for. It gets too expensive in this home theatre hobby.

Now that I think about it the same thing happened with my receiver which I bought at the same time as my 60's.

Hi Snazzed - A big thank you for letting me listen to you M22's. In addition, I also had the benefit of hearing your complete surround. It's great that I had the opportunity to hear why so many Axiom owners are pleased with their speakers.

I have yet to make my final decision on speakers however, feel much more comfortable with the Axiom brand having the opportunity to hear them.

Thanks again for your hospitality and taking all the time you did with me.
Kindly Yours,
Andy
