Hi Everyone,

Well i finally made my decision and so far so good. I purchased Axiom Epic 80 v 500 VP180 and paired it with a Yamaha A3000. I have a couple quick questions about set up.
Everything i read says set front speakers to small, so the amp can concentrate on mid and highs and let the sub do the bass. Does that apply for M80's as well? In my amp should my crossover be set as low as possible?

Axiom manual for the sub says turn the volume to 1/4 Yamaha manual says 1/2. Am i correct in thinking no matter what its at the YPAO will correct for it?

I was thinking my sub was not putting out much but i read you really should not notice the sub. Its more of an effect. On the Yamaha it has a extra bass option that the manual says will make the sub do more, do you think that is the same as turning the bass up or is it more just to activate the sub?

Sub positioning - you should do the sub crawl to find the optimal position for the sub in your room.

X-Overs - Once you have the sub positioned where you want, you can play with the x-over to get the best blend with your sub and sound that pleases you. Some use 40Hz with M80's, some 60 Hz and others 80Hz. I think it depends on your room and preference at that point with M80's.

Sub volume - I prefer to set my sub gain knob so that I get a 0dB adjustment on my receiver for the LFE channel after calibration. This is a trial and error process but leaves you with maximum room to bump the LFE channel up or down as required without having to reach behind the sub.

As for sub effect, it should blend with your mains without drawing attention to itself, but when there's serious LFE you should KNOW that your EP500 is doing it's thang! My EP500 is positioned behind my couch and literally shakes the couch on serious LFE scenes.

I agree with everything Dan said. Your EP500 should blend well with the M80s no matter the crossover, it is then a matter of taste. I have mine crosses at 40Hz for 2ch stereo and 60Hz for multichannel to relieve the M80s a bit from the heavy bass found on movies.

I leave my M80's set at 40hz but they are set to small as well, so the really low stuff goes to the sub.

I will have to do the sub crawl, our room is open design im thinking not the best set up for a sub.

Often near a corner that is the farthest away from the largest opening into the rest of the house helps.

The last couple days i was really thinking my speakers we missing something. Mids seemed to be lacking. Then last night playing with my Yamaha A3000 i notice the DRC feature was on. When i turned it off, everything seemed to come to life. Has anyone else experienced this? I was so annoyed at my wife the first day we set everything up and she said something was missing also lol. The advertising promotes DRC and as great thing but i sure dont find that.

I agreee. Dynamic Range Control = Dynamically BAD !!!!
It might be a necessary evil at times but definitely should be of if you are trying to enjoy the sound.

When I need less dynamic for night time viewing, I prefer using Audyssey's dynamic volume instead of DRC.
