Hello all,
first time poster here.
I am hoping to be an axiomite in the near future!
my plan because of of monetary limitations is to do M2s for front left and right with a vp100 center and a couple of subs.
surrounds will come a bit later as i also have to get a tv, and receiver. (this is my second system which will be located in our basement)

Ultimately i want to put M80s, vp180, and of course qs8s in the system, but all things in their own time.
I guess my question is, how are the m2s as mains?
my listening/viewing area will be about 16ft by 11ft with 71/2 ft ceilings
80 percent HT.
Keeping in mind the m2s will eventually become my rears.

thanks,

jenkzy

My coworker has M2s as mains, they sound nearly identical (his room is probably the bigger factor in the sound) to my M22s, which sound incredible (we both do have subs). I'd recommend getting a third M2 for your center, if the difference in price isn't too much, and the little extra height doesn't get in the way. Having three identical speakers across the front is ideal.

M2s with a sub are *really* good in terms of sound quality; the only caution is that because they are small speakers there are limits to how loud they can play.

I have swapped between M60 and M2 mains when demo-ing the system and the sound is *very* similar at moderate volumes.

On the other hand, if you are prone to saying "listen to *this*" and cranking the volume up to wall-of-sound level (say for the helicopter crash in the first Matrix film), the M2s won't keep up... but that's not a surprise.

I was *very* happy with M2 + sub (no center) as my first HT system. In my case I next added a pair of crappy speakers I had sitting around as surrounds and went through a series of one-purchase-at-a-time improvements -- but IMO the two "big jumps" in enjoyment were (a) M2 + sub, (b) replacing crappy surrounds with QS8s.

Thanks for the input everyone, much appreciated.
Now that I think of it, a third m2 as center makes sense for a couple of reasons,
When the time comes to add front hieghts, I only have to buy a fourth single m2!
And I won't have to worry about trying to sell the vp100 whe I upgrade to a vp 180.

We haven't worked on him long enough to get him to upgrade to M22's for the better bass response and slight increase in midrange clarity wink

If he's thinking about upgrading to M80s anyways, going with a VP180 instead of an M2 center would save some time and money. The question, as always, is how much money one can afford to save wink
