whats the lowdown ?
I see the difference in the graphs, but can you really hear these differences ?
In both music ( Stereo ) and movies ( 7ch ) subless too in both situations.
I KNOW THERE IS A DIFFERENCE, without a sub and the sound is better. But, taking out the sub, how much is missing that is noticable ?

I am looking at either or for now ,not sure I can fit a sub in my room I am in and these bookshelfs have no bottom end at all. So, I may box them up until the room is ready for them. So, I am trying to figure out if, I want HGC M60's which I could afford soon, or M80's in black, which I may end up with in the theatre room, if I find them better than bookshelf's and a sub. Thing is, I am adding a stereo upstairs, and the and it is here I really need to know the difference as it is just going to be 2.1ch But whatever I end up with upstairs is definatly in HGC

If you're going without a sub, you might be more happy with the M80's. I own M60's and have heard M80's on several occasions.

I think the M80's play louder and deeper. Jakewash has made excellent comparisons between the two, and I believe his impression is that even at lower volumes the M80's are "better". I haven't had long enough exposure to them in a known environment to validate that for myself, but I do trust Jason.

All that being said, I have M60ti's and I think they are really pretty fantastic.

yeh, for the time being I will be subless.
Once I get moved into the new house I will have a dual sub in the theatre room and upstairs I am not sure, but think I will have a sub of some sort.
Right now it's a toss up with the theatre room bookshelfs, M60 or M80's. I have the MK LCR 750's now and there is no bottom below 80hz.
SO, it is driving me nuts. I do not play load at all, Yet. I am at my parents now, until we get things rolling on the house next door.
So, i have no room for a sub now, which is why I was wondering if at a normal volumn is the much difference between the 60's or 80's. I am pretty sure I am going to end up with the three side by side someday lol

I have never heard the m60's so am of little help. However, the clarity of the m80's is amazing and they definitely can hold up without a sub for most stereo listening.

Edit: *Does a 4000 post dance*

I did an audition once back when I had m60's, and like my current m80's, the visitor asked me to turn off my sub during various soundtracks, it was off. smile

Yes, the m80's play a little deeper, but the m60's are no slouch in the bass dept.

Someday I'd still like to A/B the two.

The 2 are very similar but I prefer the cleaner more forward midrange the M80s present, which IMO is more noticeable at lower volume levels, the M60s IMO seemd perhaps more neutral or slightly recessed at lower volumes. These differences pretty much disapear at higher listening levels. The M80s also have better bass, but much of this is being pretty picky, they are both excellent speakers. If I wasn't used to my M22Ti's I am pretty sure I would still have M60's as I prefer its look to the full grill of the M80, also keep in mind all of my comparisons are with v2 speakers not the new v3 designs, so YMMV.
