OK, I'm full of questions today. I really like my new EP-175 sub but now a friend has a Mirage FRXS-10 sub (also a 10") so I was looking into specs. Since I don't have the manual (demo unit) is there any chance of putting up PDF copies of the manuals?

Also, what type of amp is in the EP-175? Class? What is the max power rating?

Many companies stretch the truth of the freq range of their subs...will the EP-175 reach much below 30Hz?

My friends Mirage also sounds good for music(the EP-175 is great for music) but he says his sub is rated down to 25 Hz. His is missing the Phase setting as well as the Audio/video switch. Any comments on freq. rating and precision of subs?

Thanks for all the info.

The max power of the EP175 is 175 watts. It is a class AB amplifier. The key to frequency ratings is the +/- db level they are rated at. This can get very confusing when transferring this data into the real world sound. A sub with a slow roll off in the low frequencies could actually have a higher low end frequency rating at say +/- 3 db but have more real world low bass than a sub with a lower frequency rating at +/- 3db but a steeper overall roll off in the low frequency. The EP175 has a slow roll off in the low frequencies and thusly significant output at 25 Hz and below.

Myles, it is no problem to send you another hard copy of the manual, or the manual formatted in a Microsoft Word doc. Send me an email with your preference (and address, if you'd like the hard copy) to Amie and I'll see that you get one.

OK, Thanks Ian for the response. It's nice to know that the EP-175 will hit that low. The power level of the amp had me confused as I see different claims: continuous power; dynamic power and dynamic peak power.

I also noticed that in the description of the EP-175, it says that it is the service manager's favorite speaker....just wondering why.

Thanks,
Myles

It drops 5db over this frequency range.

Hi Myles
The question being, why the EP175 is my favorite sub. To start with, the size is absolutely perfect for a sub woofer in a home theatre environment. A small package with solid thunder bass. The amplifier has power to handle most average to large size living room’s or theatre rooms The 10” aluminum woofer with its cast basket is bullet proof, and has proven that for the past 12 or more years. The bass is solid even at high volume, and comfortable to listen to. I like it so much I have four of them in my theatre room. Some may say it’s an over kill, but the effect is awesome! I have them situated one front, two center and one rear under the raised floor that accommodates my theatre seats. It fill’s the room with natural bass without having to drive the woofers hard, keeping the amplifiers low volume and running cool. To sum it up I guess I like smaller sub woofers and would rather double up to fill the room easily, than a large bulky sub woofer working hard, to fill the room
