I've got my screen, my Dish DVR, seats, bass shakers, some decor, popcorn machine, the sign, and a rug for the floor to absorb sound. It's perfect!

Nick, did you really need a screen that big?

The wet bar is going just outside the home theater.
And yes, I think that from 3 feet away, that 19" screen will be WAY better than my 106" I had before. I mean, geez... I am like 3 feet away instead of 15 feet away!
Big improvement.

Can you tell us about your room treatments? That wall color is quite unusual. Eddie Bauer?

Oh, no no no...
I didn't want the sound to transfer through the walls, so I did the best in treatments... I am using exposed vapor barrier over insulation to create a free flowing decoupled "wall" that will move WITH the sound to absorb it instead of be solid and rigid and transfer it through to the studs.... Simply amazing.

And for those wondering, now that we've moved, my Axioms are sitting right behind me in my temporary office (supposed to be the dining room, but until the office gets built in the basement.....)

NIck, whenever I stack my speakers (storage or whatnot) I always try to put a towel between the two--just in case.
Your VP150 on top of the M60 speakers is giving me all sorts of anxiety.

Nick, I can't wait to see your V4 theater. You will probably beat me finishing my V3 downstairs, texturing is coming soon.

Your VP150 on top of the M60 speakers is giving me all sorts of anxiety. No worries. They had only been set there for about an hour and are now separated and covered bya couple of old bed sheets for a little protection...

Nick, that first picture cracked me up! Thanks! The 3.0 setup was so lovely - it seems like you would have a hard time making 4.0 "better", but I know you will. Congrats on your new home. I hope you and the family have many happy years there.

V4.0 will have a "regular" sized and shaped room. No more seats against the rear wall, odd shaped (really odd shaped) rooms, and I will have the approval, ahem, ability to do some sound proofing and acoustical treatments.

Awesome room! Is that a Theater of Magic pinball I see in the background? Good taste! I'm building a virtual pinball machine and that's one of the tables.

Half the fun of having one is the design/build part. I'm almost halfway done with my HT v2.0

Yeah, I am looking at using some of the sepmeyer's "3 golden room ratios" to come up with a good size to base things off of. Since I am limited to 8 foot tall ceilings, that means that I could have a 12' 9.6" x 18' 7.68" room which works out pretty well since I was looking at 13' 6" for a room width anyway, and the length is adjustable to some degree. Just have to figure out of I can get everything into that room size or if I need to go a little longer...

Hmmm... I don't think that they are one in the same. Some quick reading on the ratios: Sepmeyer's Ratios And a better calculator for those that just don't like some easy math: Sepmeyer Ratio Calculator

I'm curious as to the notion of "close enough". i.e. how much tolerance is there in order for those ratios to still be useful?

To me, "close enough" is just taking: 8' x 12' 9.6" x 18' 7.68" and bumping it to 8' x 12'10" (or maybe 13') x 18'8" (or maybe 19')
Again, not sure exactly what that will do or how much impact that will have when deviating from the ideal rations, but I think that if they are that close, the stuff IN the room will have a bigger impact than round up a couple of inches.

Nick - you might want to look at seating first before committing to a room width. At 12 - 13' wide, you will be pretty much limited to three chairs across the room and still have enough room to walk around them. If I ever build another HT, I plan to build it 16' wide so that I can have four seats. The length will be around 24' so that I can have a second row of seats and enough distance from the seating to the SB speakers for optimum sound for those channels. 24' depth will also provide enough distance for wide channels or a second set of surround speakers, if I decide to go that route.

We have a space that is 17.6' wide between the stairwell and outside wall (already studded). I need to have a hallway in this space as well, and I don't want the hallway to be less than 4 feet wide (so it doesn't feel cramped) and I need 6 inches for the staggered stud wall. That leaves me with 13 feet max for width. Nothing else I can do about that.

Yea, I know. But the alternatives are: A) have everyone walk THROUGH the home theater to get to the rest of the basement
Or
B) have everyone walk AROUND the house and come in the back door to get in the rest of the basement.... Hmmm......

As for enhanced entry (and no! by enhanced entry, I was not referring to lube) I always envisioned a waterslide from the second floor that dumps you directly into an easy chair.
