you see the results every day, everywhere, it's all pervasive; but what about the "before"? a short video on the subject of before/after that tells a lot about how people are taken in, as in "There's a sucker born every day": http://nitawriter.wordpress.com/2006/11/20/208/

Commenting on the commercial. I saw this advertisement a long time ago. While the message is one that should be heeded, Dove is the last company that should be saying "no wonder our perception of beauty is distorted". Their hypocrisy is disgusting. I had a female friend of mine email me that advertisement a while ago, and she got sucked into believing Dove so genuinely cares. Once I told her that Dove is a subsidiary of Unilever (list of their brands), which owns AXE and other reality distorting companies that sexually objectify women, she felt duped. Unfortunately, not many people will peel back the layers.

companies exist for 1 reason only: to make money. Even when they say publicly that they have given X amounts of money to charity, it's only for making Money; it is, in effect, another kind of advertising.
this video is, in fact, advertising, to win over customers, and it should be seen in that light, and also to get a peek at the tricks of the industry.

I use software everyday that goes beyond Photoshop to subtly change facial structure and features to "improve" on the person.... and that's before I even get into Photoshop....

Additional Concurrence!
Although from my time on various non profit boards, I can tell you that there are actually a few (very few) companies that make a corporate donation anonymously. Hats off to them for truly believing in the cause.

Yeah, buddy; there are few genuine people in the corporate world. I place strong emphasis on "few", as you do.
"When the right hand gives, the left hand shouldn't know".
PS. Anyone familiar with that saying and whether or not I worded it correctly? It still makes sense, but that's always bothered me.

I think it goes something like this.....
"when the right hand gives, the left hand should be reaching for tissue."
