I finally got the Canon 7D that I had been considering. Have only done a little noodling around, but so far I'm really impressed. At least with the feature set. I'm upgrading from a 30D, and had a 300D/Digital Rebel before that.

The auto ISO is cool. Grabbed this shot in my poorly lit room. It selected 2000 ISO, I was able to handhold the shot, and the noise isn't bad at all. https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/Dutc7klqSBWwki2jiUxBoOMOT2c3ERsovI8XsPaiTd8?feat=directlink

Also I accidentally triggered a movie recording, so I ran with it, and just played around for a few seconds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9QBB0dfNu4

I love my 7D with battery grip. The 5D MkII is the mainstay for it's full-sized sensor, but there's something about the 7D that I just love....

I imagine I'll be full frame in 4 years. That's how long I've stayed with each body.

I sold my 30D to the president of the company where I work, and he sold his 300D to another co-worker. So I was able to pick up the 300, and remember what it felt like. The 30 isn't a bad camera, but, man, the 7D is in another league, and that's just the hand feel.

seeing the new bodies coming out almost makes me want to upgrade from my 5D mk1. However, i don't do enough photography any more to justify the expense of buying a new body.

That's a really good shot of the keyboard Chris. No noticeable pixelation at all from what i could tell. What lens were you using L glass?

Heh, no. I just got a 7D, do you think I can afford L glass? laugh (That is my next goal to upgrade a couple lenses.) It's the good ol' 50 f/1.4. That thing obliterates backgrounds. (I fear for what that f/1.2, L version does.)

Nice. My row of coworkers just went through the latest camera phase in the past 6 mos. 2 of them opted for the 7D. The other 2 of us opted to go w/ the micro 4/3s.

I've used some legacy glass w/ great results on the Olympus EPL1. My buddy lent me a Leica M mount lens and that was OUTSTANDING. W/ the few pix I take, hard to justify a lens that costs more than my kit and several lenses...

I love a shallow depth of field, and shooting with available light. So I don't own anything slower than f/2.8. Because of that, the L series lenses have always been temping. I just felt that a lens that was twice the cost of the body was pushing it. Now that I've got a more expensive body that problem is solved...

Sometimes I think "L" glass is worth it, sometimes I don't. I love my 16-35 L, but the lens I'm using day in and day out (and the sharpest lens I own) is a Sigma 150 F/2.8 Macro. It's a good focal length for portraits with a full-size sensor.

I have the 50 F/1.4 and the 85 F/1.4, and really can't see spending so much more for a F/1.2 version of each.

Yeah, I don't actually plan to get the 50 f/1.2. It's a much larger lens, and adds very little. The sharpest lens I own right now is an EF-S 60 f/2.8 Macro. It also has no noticeable distortion. I use it for portraits too (even if people hate how it captures every little flaw--I'll soften in post if needed). I've heard that some of the other EF-S lenses are pretty great too, but I hate to invest in them too much, as they don't mount on a full frame body.
