It's been several years since I've been here and have missed a lot of good information. That said, I currently have the M80's, VP150 and 2 QS8 from Axiom. My sub is an Earthquake Audio MKV. I think my system is either ti or v2 vintage, it was purchased in 2004

My Question is that I want more from the centre channel and I want to upgrade to the VP180. If I do this, will my system sound odd from the mixed Axiom vintages?

Your input is appreciated! Thanks!

I'm only answering with anecdotal information....I don't own the VP180. But as things are a bit slow around here of late, it might take awhile before you get an answer from someone with the same equipment to answer definitely.

I also have the Ti series (2004 purchase), but have been considering upgrading to the VP-180, so I've at least watched threads and posts very carefully since the VP180 was introduced.

I feel confident that the 180 will match well with my older speakers. There have been improvements in the line over the years, but the basic signature of the sound overall is the same.

I say "go for it"!

(Then you can tell ME definitely how it matches!) grin

I agree with Mark (because he can always use the support).

I'm in about the same situation he described. I would be VERY surprised if there was a significant or distracting difference in timbre between the ti towers and the V3 center. Remember that speaker placement is always going to make a difference; when you put a horizontally-oriented speaker in the middle of your room, the way it interacts with room boundaries is necessarily going to make it sound a little different than the Left and Right speakers.

So, probably the "ideal" thing for you would be to get another M80ti for your center. I know in MY house, that would NOT work, placement-wise.

Everything I've heard about the VP180 suggests that it is a meaningful improvement over the VP150. I wouldn't hesitate to combine it with ti series towers. I will almost certainly do so myself someday. Timing and budget just aren't right for me at the moment.

Well, me neither. But why should that stop us? smile

I have the 180 with the older 60's and I can say that just moving from the 150 to 180 was well worth it. It is much closer in tonal balance than the 150 ever was and the bass response across the front with that new center is really great. That is at least in my opinion. I love the 180.

Great responses everyone!

I was just looking at my post thinking about when I puchased these and I can't believe that it's been 7 years already with these speakers. They have been one of the most enjoyable things that I've ever purchased.

Yeah, isn't it cool? The speakers are just always "there for you". No maintenance, no surprises, just happy sounds.

Tom, welcome back! The most pertinent question wouldn't seem to be whether the VP180 precisely matches your M80s, but rather whether it matches them more closely than the VP150 does and is better overall. Judging from Alan's reports on the VP180 and the reports of owners, it seems that the answer is definitely yes.

I posted a few months ago about how much I have enjoyed my speakers over the years. I think I got mine about 6 years ago and they have been my favorite thing I have ever bought. I use them everyday. I remember thinking back then about how expensive it was for me at the time, and how I hoped it wouldn't be one of those expensive things you buy then never use. You know like Treadmills, workout benches, pianos. and other purchases we make with great intensions of using, but never do. I would have to say that if we measure the worth of something by the amount of use/enjoyment you get from it I would say this was the best purchase I have ever made. Unlike the expensive clothes hangers (i.e. treadmills) My axioms have been the greatest "Jelly of the Month club" ever. It has definitely been the gift that keeps on giving!

I am going to be doing something similar in about 2 months. I am going from my (late) 2004 vintage setup to one that includes those, plus an upgrade to the VP180 and a second set (thus newer version) QS8s. I am not worried. It will be awesome!
