Brian, your observation seems to be correct. Consumer Reports includes a "viewing angle" factor in their TV testing. In the last lengthy report in March the plasmas were all rated "Excellent" in that respect, the Vizeos were all rated "Very Good", and most of the Samsungs were rated "Fair", although a couple were "Good".
In the current issue a few sets were tested, apparently with a new procedure(or at least terminology)for viewing angle. Plasmas were rated "Unlimited", a Vizio set "Wide" and a Samsung set "Narrow".
