Well, my oldest boy starts at LSU on Monday. I took the week off to go with him to orientation/placement tests/scheduling, and the all important funding. We moved him into his dorm on Thursday, and by Thursday night he already had homework due on Monday for Chemistry. Came as quite a shock to him... "but classes haven't even started yet!" Get used to it kid...

A lot quieter around the house now. The other two are already trying to establish their new dominance in the house. Kind of amusing given the 7 year difference in age.

More later...

Wow, big times.

Mine starts first grade next week, so I can't relate, yet. I do remember the excitement and anxiety of my own trip off to college.

Thanks for sharing, and good luck to both of you!

I wouldn't be surprised if they made up some sort of fake assignment for the students as part of the orientation week. Gotcha! There can be all sorts of silly things that can happen during that week.

I know I had to write a mathematics test during orientation, prior to to the actual term starting which ended up being fake. LOL

My daughter is off to the University of Ottawa on Sunday. My wallet feels strangely light all of a sudden...

It will be interesting to see how this affects my son. They are actually quite close, but he is now 'home alone'.

We are about a year behind you (Scott and Fred). Our oldest is a senior in high school right now. Still not sure where she wants to go, but we did do some college visits. The good thing is that she is in enough activities and gets great grades and high ACT scores that she can go just about anywhere. The bad thing is that she knows this and wants to go "just about anywhere"... That is expensive.

Even with financial aid and scholarships, she might as well just buy a decent house for the amount of money that some of these schools want. I certainly can't afford an extra $15,000 a year let alone $40,000 for the "cheapest" place that she "wants" to go to...

I hear you. Us high taxing socialist Canadians still subsidize higher education to a greater degree than you folks do. Some of the most in demand programs from good universities do charge premiums, but, in general, post secondary education is still affordable in Canada.

I hope it stays that way, not just for my sake, but because I believe that we need to have a highly educated work force to maintain the levels of wealth we have risen to.

Germany is a great example of how this can work. They maintain a very healthy manufacturing base despite having high (read uncompetitive in some people's minds)wages. They do this by having a highly trained and educated workforce so they can compete in high value added manufacturing.

1st and 7th grade boys here, so will be awhile. Hoping for acedemic or sport scholarships and then starting for the St Louis Cardinals so daddy can retire.

Hopefully that fossil LaRussa isn't still the skipper. laugh

LaRussa really messed with Rasmus head. Talking about the mental demons with St. Louis. We saved him just in time. smile Who did you guys get in return from the 3 way deal? We already DFA'd the trade fodder (Miller) that was part of obtaining him.
