Hi everyone, I've got the M60's VP150, and QS8 (Along with the VTF-2 Subwoofer from HSU Research) and love them but have found with the QS8's, the sound from the tweeters comes out a bit scratchy and staticy. I have just now wall-mounted them and love the way they look. I get a similar effect though not nearly as pronounced at all from the M60's though they sound amazing. I have not calibrated the speakers at all via anything though have the Avia disc. I have not yet purchased an SPL meter but plan to do so. Could this be happening if the treble is up too high. I have the power level gains and treble and bass at varying levels for each speaker as of now as I have not used a set-up disc. Perhaps I should do that first? I am using the DA4ES Sony 7 channel reciever and have owned the speakers for about 5 months though have only been able to use them for about 3 as my cat peed in my reciever and new boards were put in by Sony.

Thanks for any help!

I noticed the thread that I replied to above this and it seems that I may have speaker crackle... I saw something about tightening with an allen screw. What exactly should I try tightening?

folgers,
Sorry to hear about the cat thing.
It seems that many are having pet difficulties with electronics these days.

As for your QS8 problem, check all your speaker wire connections. Sometimes a loose or crossed wire touching some other metallic surface can cause this problem. Often times it results in your receiver shutting itself down into protection mode.
Aside from that, swap your QS8 left and right and change music/source material to be sure it has nothing to do with that.
Otherwise, unplug them and give Joe at Axiom customer service a call. There could be an internal wire that is loose.

folgers,
To add another note, i was reading my dvd manual last week for some dvda info and i came across a paragraph that talked about setting the bitstream/PCM otherwise you may hear some crackling noise.
I suggest you check out your cd/dvdp settings as well.

Folgers, I don't think it's treble being too high. However as a first diagnostic step, put all your tone controls on flat or 0db change. The fact it happens with both M60s and QS8s (albeit less with M60s) implies a common problem. Your receiver is in common with all those speakers, as is your CD/DVD player.

Can you try other sources, like off-the-air FM, tape, TV, etc? If all those sources do it, that might indicate a receiver problem, and we know your receiver has had problems of a feline variety

Getting a calibration disc and Radio Shack meter is a good idea.
