Marants Service told me in an email that it should NOT happen, if the amps are turned on before the prepro.
pls refer to my post above...

Maybe even slightly less. Just my opinion but I'm no expert. I will say that the Marantz was pretty.

one thing for sure is that weight is not an indication of quality; but it certainly influences judgment.
what would you think about some amps today that weight about 12 lbs. and put out hundreds and hundreds of Watts?
how about the Crown XLS1500, at 8.6 lbs or 3.9 kilos?
Crown info here: http://www.crownaudio.com/amp_htm/xls_drivecore.htm

my QSC amp is more powerful than my Hafler, yet it weighs around 25 lbs compared to the Hafler's 50 lbs.
and my guess is that they're both of about the same quality: very durable. in fact, if you ever hold a QSC amp in your hands, you will be very impressed...just holding it; it exudes solidness and quality.

another example: one of the first microwave ovens i bought around 1973 weighed about 50 lbs; today, they weigh less than half of that, with the same quality too;
why? because they found out that microwave ovens did not NEED to be so heavy and solid; and that makes the prices go down too.

have a look at my equipment photo, the address is in my signature.
below the TV/monitor, you'll see 2 amps.
the black one is the Hafler, the one on top is the QSC. (lots of space saving too).

I've heard tell that some heavy amps and other equipment have metal plates inside purely to MAKE them heavy. See the Oppo/Lexicon debacle from a few years back.

i've heard that too.

how about the very thick front plate on some modern AVR's or on some very costly amps!
it sure is not for durability, but only for looks.

I just wish people would make the things balanced. I don't know about any other receivers, but my H/K weights a WHOLE LOT MORE on one side than the other. Makes putting it the cabinet a joy...

How about when you carry it under one arm while balancing a beer in the other?
That's really the more crucial question to be asking here.

Clearly I need to buy another receiver or two so I can test this out.

Yep, it should not happen IMO. My three previous receivers (two Denons and and Onkyo) never had the "power on pop" . And I'd just as soon return it than have to find a work around for it. Besides, like I said in my earlier post, the pop wasn't the only problem this unit had.

I know that weight does not necessarily correlate to quality. It was just a vibe/feeling I had about the 6005.

LOL! Ken and chess, ...ya'll remind me of what I miss about the Axiom forums.

Nice setup. BTW, I enjoyed your photos too.
