I know, I know... No photo.
I got the room put back together, and including putting up the star ceiling. I cleaned up everything too, and then remembered that my LED light strip around the soffit got damaged when I installed my front Atmos speakers a couple of months ago. Managed to get that fixed too.
Then last night a work buddy (again, the one who I got to buy Axiom speakers for his home theater) came over at 9:30 with 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi to watch.
The movie has an Atmos mix, and WOW was it good. The audio was amazingly good, and who knew that Michael Bay could make an actually good movie.
I will get an updated photo today. I did try to take some last night, but I wanted to make it a panoramic photo, and the start and end points never lined up. It was after midnight on another long day, so I gave up after 3 tries is all. LOL

So I haven't posted anything here in over 2 years, and unfortunately it looks like I may be losing my web hosting.
The company that I have been using for about 14 years is now saying that I can no longer "store" images on their system unless it is tied directly to a website. Well, most of my photos here are just stored on that web hosting and not a part of the "ht.buol.us" website, if you even want to call it that.
So they are making me clean house. I have a ton of movie poster images that I've worked up for people to do custom print acoustical panels. Those all had to go. I am losing about 99% of what I use the space for, and I pay about $120 a year for their hosting and the registration of buol.us. Not worth it.
Since my build thread is mainly from about 7 years ago, and I haven't posted a recent image even in 2 years, I think that it is time to let this go.
I am going to ask them to cancel my service and refund any unused portion of what I've paid (people are required to pre-pay for their hosting). I will take my $120 and use it to upgrade my google drive or dropbox storage if need be and save a ton each year.
That means that almost every photo in this entire thread will vanish soon.
I have saved everything locally, but don't see a reason really to every put any of it back up at this point. I hate dead links in discussions, but even if I decided to keep things going, the value for the money isn't there, and using any free hosting/storage would mean most likely changing the URL for each image and thus they wouldn't work anyway.
If someone ever comes across this thread and wants to see a particular photo, let me know. I am here almost every day, so I will respond quickly.

Hey Nick, When you were changing your Theater over to Atmos you decided on M-3 OW. Did you consider the M-2 OW at all? If you did what was it that won the M-3 over for you? Thanks, Jeff

Easy. Lower frequency capability of the 6.5" driver vs. the 5.25" driver.
Too often people think that Atmos works OK with tiny little overhead speakers. That isn't the case. You actually want some good sized speakers (within reason) to be able to handle as much of that mid-range frequency as well.
I was at CEDIA several years in a row (starting with the last one before Dolby announced Atmos for the home), and each year after the Dolby announcement, more and more refinement of proper setup techniques and hardware usage would happen.
Outside of that first year being blown away by it, it was 2 years later that I experienced a Denon and Marantz demo where they were using overhead speakers with 10" woofers in them. Holy crap was the impact (pun intended) amazing. In big action sequences, having that sound energy able to come from overhead was quite noticeable. You are getting into some pretty low frequencies that normally would be handled by a sub, but being able to still be high enough that you can tell the direction it was coming from.
As such, I wanted to use the Axiom speaker with the biggest woofer that I could mount on my ceiling. Thus the M3 (M5HP would be nice, but didn't exist at the time, and at nearly 2x the price of the M3s, wouldn't have been in the budget. I mean, I was replacing (4) QS8s with M3 onwalls and adding 4 more for the ceiling. That was almost a $2000 sticker price on the M3s alone just to add Atmos plus the price for the Anthem MRX-1120 to drive them all. My wife would kill me today if she really knew how much has been spent on the home theater over the years.

Nick is correct with regard to the bass content in the surround channels. I discovered this for myself when I moved to QS10s for 5.1. I was also very surprised with how the quality and quantity of bass changed when I used 500s with the front A-LFR channels and routed just the .1 and below 40Hz from the surrounds to my 800.
So Nick may very well be justified in saying the M3OW may be better than M2OW for bass but justified only by a 10Hz extension to 70Hz instead of 80Hz for the M2. Does +/- 5Hz around 75Hz really matter?
Also consider this. I have the M3 bookshelves, M2 bookshelves and M2OW. The M2 bookshelves and OW are more accurate, mids and highs are more dispersive and over-all, the M2 is cleaner-sounding without being surgical. The M2s with a sub sound like M5s. I like the bass from M2s better than the bass from M3s and the mid-range is excellent and simply cannot be compared to the M3 mid-range. I can relax to both M2s and M3s but I feel I am really missing stuff with the M3s.
If I was doing Atmos, I would go with M2s for height and M5HPOW for surrounds. The only reason I wouldn't do M5s for height is because I'd be concerned about proper driver integration from the 3 drivers.

Mojo, I think Nick is indicating that these are heights and tops ... we are not doing critical listening here ...we are just trying to get it into the ball park. An M3 does that with much better than an M2.
