I have been reading a lot on many different forums and I've decided to put my money on Axioms when it comes to home theater speakers. My plan is to upgrade my surrounds, then work to the front. I have an issue in that I am height limited - my projector screen is around 27" from the ground, and I can't go any higher than that. The room is 12'x20' and I sit around 14' from the screen (112" in 16x9 and 143" in scope).
My question is, will a pair of M22's as fronts matched with a VP-150 be powerful enough in a room that size? I strictly watch movies and play games, so I'm looking for the ability to crank it up without getting a lot of distortion. I have an Onkyo 806 and 3 passive sonosubs powered by an external amp (serious awesome bass), so they don't really need to go down too low. Anyway, thanks for your help and...yay first post on this forum!

The M22's that I have can play quite loud with no noticable distortion. I doubt that you'd have a problem with them. I use one of the smaller Pioneer Elite receivers that can drive them quite easily. They are rated at 110 wpc.

And welcome to the forums.

Blaster, welcome. When supported by good subs such as you have the M22s have plenty of dynamic capability above the low bass. The one change that I'd suggest in what you propose is to use a vertical M22 for the center speaker so as to have M22s across the front. You have plenty of space under the screen to place it. This should make for excellent sound with your QS surrounds.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

Sweet. Thanks for your help. I figured they'd be enough...just needed a little affirmation. wink

Thanks JohnK re: using the M22 as the centre. I'll now have to see if they sell them in singles...

I have to say, I used to be so focused on the image and less so the sound. I upgraded to a nice-ish receiver and different used speakers my audiophile friend sold me and I couldn't believe the difference. I'm starting to develop an ear for good sound, but I have a feeling it will be a lifelong process. Thanks again for your help and I'll keep ppl posted on the upgrades. smile

I agree with JohnK. To do otherwise seems futile.

Axiom will certainly sell you odd numbers of speakers. Give them a call.

The QS8's are absolutely fantastic, btw. They are SO good that I found there to be "not enough" difference going from 5.1 to 7.1.

You can add a single speaker to the cart right on the web page when browsing the different speakers.

Also, consider the 3 M22's across the front as John stated. Not only will it save you money but it will create a better front sound stage. That's a win win as long as your room configuration can accommodate the vertical center. cool
