Jacques, in a 5.1 setup without back surround speakers, it's preferable to have the side surrounds slightly(maybe 2')farther back than directly to the side of the listening position. Although less significant with very wide dispersion units such as the QSs, it still helps in providing a "phantom" back surround effect on sounds about equal in level in the left and right surrounds. So yes, more like 110 degrees.

Yup the rating is in shear force, you are correct Ken. however, I also have a pair of speakers in my bedroom that are on brackets that i made that are hanging on the walls with these same anchors.. At a shear rating that is over 2X the weight of the speaker per anchor, the rating shouldn't be an issue, the surface area of these anchors is extremely high, and as you know the larger of an area you spread a load over the less force per given area.. drywall toggles have only 2 points of contact. However, i could not find a quick rating of drywall toggles but i suspect they are not going to be a lot higher than 75lbs, since drywall is the weak link here, not the anchors.

Of course i would expect Ian to have axiom speakers.. Why in the world would he have a pair of the competitors... If he did buy a pair of the competitors speakers i am sure he wouldn't get a pair of puny WATT puppies, i think he would have gotten a pair of WAMM's or Alexandria's....sheesh ken give Ian come credit man.....

another question, hoping it's the last one:
for QS8 side surrounds, do you think it's best to mount them low, or a bit above the head or high on the side walls, and maybe tell me why?

J.B. i currently have my QS8's mounted on the celling about 2' or so behind the seating area. They are probably 4' above the seating area.

I think that this is a good location due to the spacial separation between your ears and the speakers. With the multi driver design, i have noticed in this set up that the sound "envelopes" you more than having the speakers closer to the listener. Again, i have had 4 different setups, many of them were severely space limited (military barracks living). The last place i lived (an apartment) i was using the stands, and the speakers were at ear level when sitting, and directly to the left and right of the respective seats. I did not like that setup as much as my current one because the speakers were only a couple feet away from your ears, and the effects/sound was not as enveloping due to the closeness of the speaker to the listener. i would say my current distance head to speaker is about 6-8' from my chair. more to the left and right than behind, if i had the room i would prefer them to be about 2-3' farther back than they currently are.

I hope this helps you in your decision, i have tried to be as precise with my reasoning as possible.

I have had my 8s at 7.5' from the ground and now are at 60"; I like the 60" position much better.

Jacques, a common suggestion for the indirect nature of most surround material is to position the speakers about 2-3' above ear level.

Question on the new bracket. I currently have a older pair of QS4's that I'm going to be using as side surrounds (5.1) but in the future my plan was to replace them with QS8's and move the QS4's to the rear (7.1).

My initial thought was I wouldn't even have to move the brackets but now that the v3's have this new one do I need to worry about the holes left from the old bracket when installing the new one?
