Has anyone heard the audition line of speakers from Athena? Particularly the AS-B2? I wonder how they compare to the M3. Any comments would be appreciated.

player8,

i actually listened to them more then once, including yesterday! i'm helping a friend pick some speakers for his stereo setup.

I really like the Athena line when you consider the price. You can often haggle a good deal to get them cheaper. I saw the ASB2's for 280 CAD tax included, which is a nice deal.

however, for just a tad more cash, you can get the M3's, a much clearer sounding speaker.

Go with the M3's unless your budget is really, really tight.

Thanks Ravi,
I'm actually in college and I was looking for something to replace my Bose 301's as my mains. Money is kinda tight, but over the summer I'm sure I will be able to muster up enough money to get the M3's, but I don't want to pay more if I don't have to...

What I really want are the M22's. Are they really that much better than the M3's?

That depends on what you plan on using them for. Most people really like the sound of the M3ti when used in a 2 channel, no sub, small room setup.

The M22ti is most often used in a 2 channel plus sub setup or also they're very often used a main channels in a HT setup.

Once again it's not so much a matter of which is better. It's which is better suited for your needs. Axiom only has one line of speakers.

It seems that unlike many other companies which make a good, better, best line of speakers, Axiom makes one line of speakers, with each speaker designed for specific applications.

M3s are fuller and laid back compared to M22, thats the impression i got from the forum. I personally own M22.

Well, I'm more of a music guy myself, but I do like to be engulfed in the movie that I am watching. my preference is 75/25 music to HT. I live in a dorm room and I'm not sure if I will be able to fit (or afford) a sub. Ideally, I would like to get the 22's with a HSU STF-2. It all depends on how much scholarship money I get next semester as well as how much money I make over the summer.

You say that the M3 is laid back compared to the M22. The M3 will still be way cleaner than my 301's right? And on a sidenote, how do the M3's sound compared to the PSB image 2b's? My dad has a pair of those he just got that I can listen to over spring break. The 2b's cost $400, and the M3 only $275. I should probably wait until I find out if I can fit a sub in my room or not.

player8,

it depends much on what you like. I prefer the M22's compared to the M3's. They are worth the cash.

Look for deals with Athena speakers though, you can get them real cheap.

also, check www.canuckaudiomart.com for used Axiom speakers, you might get lucky
